I've done some researched and I'm a bit confused on all this researching...I want to put a COBB CAI in my car and was wondering if I did will it throw off my CEL light...I read it will throw off the MAF sensor??? I'm just totally confused if I can run the COBB intake without any major modification. MAJOR as in I think installing an INTAKe is 8.5 out of 10. 10 being a major mod.
yeah it might throw a code but its a really easy to install mod and someone who doesnt know anything about cars could figure out how to do it
it might huh...how do I fix it so it won't throw a code? Right now I just have a K&N filter just plugged in...
I care. Maybe to you it's jsut a regular light, but the CEL light to me is to warn/tell me that something might be wrong with my ride. If it i just leave it on, what if somethign else more major happens and you won't notice because your cell light has always been on...that is why I prefer mine OFF.
Yeah it MIGHT...I am jsut wondering if there is a way (other than putting the stock intake back on) to turn off the CEL light once the AM intake is in.
well usually ull get a diff light such as "at oil temp" or something like that. so i wouldnt worry to much about it. but i can see your concerns..im just saying theres other warning signals that your car would put out
Well, if it is a 5 speed it won't have a "at oil temp light". Thats is only in the cars with the auto, and that will only turn on if you have tranny problems. Any engine problem will flash the check engine light. Russ
The only code it'll throw is if your MAF died. and IF it ever dies, and you can't start the car, unplug it and drive it home. You will be limted on revs though so you know, 3500rpms for me. I didn't want to mess with ANY more MAF's so I just stuck with my paper filter. Check the fitler when you do your oil change, having a NEW paper filter works almost as good as the REST of the aftermarket filters. Want more power? setup 2 paper filter air boxes, this way the air being sucked in is divided so less resistance. The only code you'll throw is when the MAF dies. Until then, no worries. My '99 L has the same STOCK intake setup, I put on a '93 intake tube between the MAF and TB. It's got some grunt to it and I just left in the paper filter. Works just fine.
The CEL on my 99 RS was on all the time so I just took the bulb out. I thought the post-recall MAF sensor on the MY99 was more robust than the total piece of trash that was on it pre-recall. All I know is I got rid of the MAF sensor on my 99 RS as soon as I possibly could.
