Up until tonite, I still had the stock ('02) battery in the car. It was a shade weak last winter, still always got the job done. The fluid level went down a bit a couple times in the last year. I just kept filling it up. Well just this afternoon, the car sat for about 3 hours. I jumped in to leave the office and head home. The car started really slow (weak). I didn't think much of it. I figured it's about time to get a new one. I got home and grabbed the tester. It showed about 12.7 with the car off. It had 14.05 to 14.10 volts running. So I figured it was a fluke. Well about two hours later, I went out to go buy the new battery anyways. I unlocked the car and the horn beeped really sloooooooow and low. I tested the battery again. This time it showed 10.5 volts with the car off. Well, I shopped around a bit. I ended up getting the only battery they showed to fit at Wal-mart. It is their top of the line 9 year warranty (3 year full replacement) for $75. It measured pretty close. Only about a half inch taller. It fits fine. Stock they are about 550 cca I think. I believe this one is about 640 cca. Anyways, I know Taras was looking at batteries and got the one from Autozone and it didn't fit. Someone else said to get the one from Wally World. Well, the Wally World one works. Derek
You haven't had luck with them? I've had one in my Eclipse for about 3 years now. Still going strong.
One thing I forgot to mention was (may be totally unrelated) that the clock on my dash has been fading in and out. Mostly out when I start the car and working when I drive it for a while. Could be the clock. Not sure.
My wallmart battery has lasted 3 summers, it is 650cca (maybe 625), cost like $30, is half the size of the stocker. Russ
I've used Wal-Mart batteries for the last 10+ years. Never any problems, and I've never bought more than one per car. Oh, the one for my truck sat for 2 years and was dead afterwards (I didn't do anything to maintain it). They replaced it under warranty (4.5 years old) and a new 990A cost me ~$20. I've got a Diehard in the WRX, but that's because it was in my Sentra, which was sitting with a dead battery (Fleet Farm house brand, I think) in a small town that only had a K-Mart. I swapped the newer battery into the DD later.
About the clock...some of them just do that and then they eventually die. I had mine go out in my 02 right after I got the car. I bought another used clock on NASIOC, swapped it in, and it's been good to go ever since (~1 year).
