It is a red Impreza L with 135,410 miles on it, auto tranny. Not sure what year, I will call them later to see how much they want for it.

How much do you guys think it is worth?

Have you drove it yet? If not you might want to drive it first to see how's the engine running.

    2 grand maybe?

Drive it and make sure that auto shifts nicely. Not buick nice, cause this is a different drivetrain setup. Make sure it shifts soon enough, and short shifts, not long drug out ones.

Yes, but not long extended shifts. That could mean worn internal clutches. Do you have $$$$$$$

Honestly I do not think the car is worth more than $1500 Private Party IMO...Especially with the Rust and body damage. $2500 if it is in great shape..Has the Timing belt been done? If not...$1000-$1200 tops

Start with a lowball offer, gives you more room to work, also those cars on craigslist look like a much better deal, make sure you look around the first car you see may not be the best.

if you only have $1500 then wait a while.. be patient the right one will pop up soon enough.... cause more then likely you will have the hidden expenses of title transfer etc, maybe little fixes that you didnt catch... etc etc...

make sure when you buy it you dont stretch it with every dollar.. leave yourself some play / fix it money too... ie: your tire that blew... unexpected but cost money to replace...

Well I got up kind of late today around 3:00p.m. I did talk to the lady that is selling the red ImprezaL. She says that she wants $3000 for it and the lowest that she will go is $2900. Tires are good, brakes are good. I have got to drive it yet. Tell me if she is a little high.

Yes, she is high...in more ways than one. Bluebook Excellent for that car is 2500 bucks. She is asking 500 over Excellent bluebook for a car that is far from Excellent. Walk away from it. Then come back in two weeks, see if she is ready to make a deal after nobody even remotely is interested.

I saw someone today talking to her about the car, then I came back 5min. later she was gone. I almost told her there is no way that you will get that much for it, but I did tell her that I looked it up on kbb.

I think Jason's got a good plan, if the car was maintained by a suby dealer, with suby reccomended services, I'd probably pay a bit extra for a car that has the documents to prove it's only been driven on sunday by a little ol lady. But that's me.

This just made me giggle.....Have you considered talking to your parents and having one of them take out a loan that you pay them back for? Maybe a small one so you can get a little newer car then 180k miles? Or wait till your 18 and get it in your name to start building some credit?

I would have to wait til I was 18 because. My parents have already loaned me $3000 for the car. I have to pay them $1000 back of the $2000 that they paid for the car. And then the $2000 to replace the old tranny that I blew up. So I think I am on my own on this one. I found some more close to me they all want somewhere around $900 for them.
