I haven't been around for a while so I'll throw this out there and people can take it or leave it for what it is, but IMHO I think the post minimum is a good idea for certain features to be activated for a couple reasons.

First, it incentivizes new members to acclimate into the group and become a contributing member of that group. It is a "group" first and foremost and not simply a marketplace, people should have to participate in that group in order to use certain features. The way I look at it, if someone is upset by the rule, they most likely are valuing the features of the marketplace more than they are of the "group". The site is merely another "ebay", "craigslist", "classifieds" website to them and that is not the goal the site is trying to accomplish. If that's all they seek or if they disproportionately value the ability to sell compared to the value of the group, then maybe they should seek other sites to accomplish what they want, there are plenty sites that are free to sell. If you're selling something of interest in this group, most likely your best target audience is here and the other options will have no where near the market that is here. I'd say 25 posts is an outstanding price for access to a very specific, localized market with any good/service.

Second, it can also give good insight into the character of a new member. If they want to reach the post goal in order to simply use certain sections, the posts they create in order to reach that goal can give good indication of their intentions. If someone is post-whoring, flaming, trolling, etc. within their first 25 posts, they most likely won't be positive contribution to the group and therefore could possibly be banned before they reach this goal. This therefore protects the members of the group from possible scammers, spammers, etc. This in turn will create more consumer confidence within the group and will effectively reduce a common market failure (asymmetrical information) in the marketplace, therefore increasing prosperity within that market meaning: less problems, possible lower equilibrium (lower prices for all :)), and overall success of the market.

From the outside perspective of an individual who is new and means well, it may appear unfair, but in the long run it is positive for the group and its members. The new individual, with time, will receive benefits of the rules and any perceived unfairness will come around full circle to them. This may create a short-term negative for some, but will become a long-term gain for the group as a whole.

Very well put, and very politely written!
Whether or not I agree with the rule change is irrelevant, but I do agree with the principal of it.
This is mnsubaru.com. It is not mnsellsubaruparts.com. It is not mnsubarumarketplace.com.
This is a forum for sharing information, experience, and general communication.
Secondly, it is not a public website. This is a private site, which is privately owned by a private party. Very literally, the owner of this site can do what they want when they want to. That's the fun of owning a website, they can make up the rules they want.
As a member of this website, I intend to either adhere to the new rules or leave. It's that simple. At this point, it doesn't look like anything is going to be reversed, anyway.

Well put Bryan. I'm closing this just to no longer continue the discussion, though I feel all should read.
