Sounds like he swapped in a manual, so there is no park...

yea...I had this problem. I managed to "override" it with a screwdriver and a hammer

I'll consult my diagrams and whatnot and see what I can find. What car is this in?

Have you fixed up the park/neutral sensor on the auto wiring harness? IIRC you need to re-wire the harness slightly, essentially by-passing the P/N sensor so you can start the car w/o being in P/N this might also fix the issue of the keys not coming out.

Did you turn the steering wheel to the lock position with the car turned off and the key in the ignition? That will lock the key in position until you play with the steering wheel for a bit.

looks like the key lock solenoid is controlled by pins 9 and 11 on the shift lock control unit, being Blue with red and Black with red respectively. and the plug at the solenoid is a 2 pin black connector. judging by the diagram, it looks like it needs a current through it (probably 12v+ through pin 9 and ground through 11, although it should work the other way around)

I suspect the solenoid is on the steering rack. and I suspect that once you override it once, you won't have to do it again....

i have it so the ecu thinks its in neutral, which involved jumping one of the plugs from the auto trans. maybe i can wire it so it thinks its in park too?
i will look in my manual for the shift lock solenoid. until then, im lockin the keys in the car with my spare lol

has nothing to do with the ECU....or the wires from the tranny...just 2 wires that go directly from the shift lock control unit to the key lock solenoid.

the shift lock control unit is rather easy to find...larger unit (not as large as the ECU or TCU, but larger than a relay), and under the dash, and has a big sticker that says "shift lock" on it. I think I have one or 2 around here from my various swap harnesses....I'll see what I can find.
