My next car is only going to be $29K, sorry STi. The new BMW 135i is going to be priced at $29k. This is awesome since it shares the same TT I6 that the 335i has (Justin's Whip) and is in a smaller chasis. I'm definately going to pick one of these up once I graduate from college. http://www.autoblog.com/2007/11/15/bmw-strike-officially-strike-accidentally-prices-135i-at-35/
The 1 Series Coupe is drop dead gorgeous. It's the first car I've seen in years that stands a chance to draw me away from the Subieworld. It probably won't, but it might. Stuart.
yes i agree the 135 is going to be awesome. just keep that subaru you have on the side so you'll have the best of both worlds.
yeah. i thought you guys were crazy until i figured out the article was ninja edited...shabbily. good looking auto in imo, but fully loaded at $52K? wow. wonder if you get a dipstick or the weird oil monitoring system.
I've been watching the new 1 series for quite some time now. It's going to be a fantastic car. It's also going to be tough to get a 135 for under $40K. Here's the option price list: BMW 135i Coupe Pricing The base price for the 135i Coupe will be $35,675 and the base price includes 17" wheels, light burl walnut trim and Glacier aluminum trim. The remaining options are as follows: 6-Speed STEPTRONIC automatic transmission $1,275 Premium Package (ZPP)* $3,300 Sport Package (ZSP) $1,000 Cold Weather Package (ZCW) $600 Active Steering $1,400 Paddle Shifters $100 Comfort Access $500 Power Front Seats w/memory (ZPP)* $995 Heated Front Seats (ZCW) $500 Park Distance Control $350 Navigation w/iDrive $2,100 BMW Assist with Bluetooth System (ZPP)* $750 HD Radio $350 Satellite Radio $595 Premium Hi-Fi System $875 iPod and USB Adaptor $400 Metallic Paint $475 Boston Leather (ZPP)* $1,450 BMW 135i Option Packages Just as a reminder, this is what is included in the 135i Coupe Option Packages: ZCW Cold Weather Package ($600) Ski Bag 3 stage Heated Front seats ZPP Premium Package ($3,300) * 8 way power front seats 4 way power lumbar support Boston Leather upholstery Power mirror w/auto dimming Digital interior mirror compass Ambiance interior lighting Universal garage door opener BMW assist with Bluetooth ZSP Sport Package ($1,000) 8 way adjustable sport seats 3 spoke M Leather steering wheel Shadowline exterior trim Just do a little math and you'll see it's going to be tough to get one spec'd for under $40K.
good luck finding one sent to the usa as a stripper in the first 2 years of production. they're going to milk it for as much as they can.
:eek3::eek3::eek3: Poll for a ban?? I would love me a 135i hard. Hard hard hard. So sexy, the only problem is they're not nearly light enough. That can be fixed pretty easily tho.
Until they make an 135xiT we're really comparing apples and oranges. Besides, the 128i will be a girl's car and, no matter how cool the 135i might be on the inside, everyone else will think you're driving a girl's car. Know this. It will be the Bimmer equivalent of the Jetta. Oh my gawd Becky, your car is sooooo cute! I'm going to get one that, like, matches my [insert breed of rat-sized dog]. Also, it looks like the midget bastard offspring of a Lincoln LS and Dodge Charger.
i think it's great how much subie pride people have only reason to get a subie over german is lack of money- i've got one and i can admit it
yes, we do have alot of pride in our subies, i see subaru as having more personality then any other car company on the planet
Glad to know your financial constraints. Spending as much as you can afford says more about materialism and lack of comfort with one's dong-size than it does about the car they're driving. I can afford any car I want (within reason) but choose to drive a Subie. Best bang for the buck, for me. Bimmers and Audis are the poster children for the pervasive keeping-up-with-the-Jones-crowd. 99% of the wankers with them don't even know what to do with them. Most of them overextend themselves to even get in one and then they're afraid to have fun with it because they can't afford to fix it. Great decision making...:ugh:
what i meant was that i own a SUBARU and i can admit i bought it because i couldn't afford German for a winter beater... my Mercedes was not expensive by any means (15k... likely much less than most people here dropped on their subaru's) i'm not bragging about how much stupid money i can spend also, what you are saying about people over extending themselves is true with all nice cars (including subaru's). It isn't like there aren't tons of people who can afford them, and afford to modify them (just as there are with subaru's). Heck, look at me and actually quite a few others who are on this site as well as mnaudi for example... and who are modifying both their subaru's and german cars. I realize a new rs4 is priced out of this stratosphere- but if you have a wrx and don't wish you had that car instead (and enough money not to care how expensive it is) your lying.
how is 300hp for 35k an ouch...its exactly same same $/hp ratio as the STi. and like bikerwriter said with just a reflash and a catback you can make 380whp which will smoke an STi on the straights and curves.
Why? Had a G35 sedan a while back. They're nice cars, but not nearly as fun as my STi. I guess if you're an old guy who doesn't want the boy racer stigma attached to yourself...then maybe. Otherwise, I say you fail.
That's one reason. The other reason is that a 2008 G35x lists at $34, while the STi is looking like $35+ The STi, like my WRX would be essentially a 2 person car. I'd much rather have the Nissan 3.5l V6 with the huge, flat torque curve. And the fundamental issue is that the STi is basically an Impreza with a powerful engine and an active center diff. The G35x starts out as a luxury car and adds lots of power and an active center diff. And costs less, despite not being an econobox at it's core. I love the STi. I happen to really like the new body style. I'd put it ahead of the G35x if it was sub $30k, but for $35k+? Forget it.
The new WRX isn't even sub 30k (with all options). How do you even compare a "luxury" car to a compact anyway? Apples and oranges.
Nice ninja edit on the "(with all options)" part. Care to speculate what the STi will cost "with all options" ? Or even just equipped to the same level as a base G35x? Yeah, they're different cars, but what I've learned is that the few things I can do with a compact that I can't with a mid-sized are the things I damn well shouldn't be doing on the open road. So I do those things with my Sentra, off road or on closed roads. And having driven the WRX and the Sentra hard, the WRX is easy to be fast in, but the Sentra is at least 2x as fun. Give me AWD for security and stability for the street, but give me 2WD for fun. It's not like I'm telling anyone else to not buy an STi. I said I would buy a G35x over the STi. You have to do you own valuation.
This is kind of ironic because it was basically the same point I was making in the suspension thread. But I think you get to compare the two because they're the same price. Personally I'd take the raw performance because that's my taste, but $35k is basically the low end of "big money" for a car, and once you get up there people have a lot of expectations. So I see his point on the luxury/performance aspect of the G35x vs performance/econonobox of the sti. It's still a car that, at its bones, can be leased for less than $200/mo. That's seriously encroaching kia land and I can see how some types of people could shy away from that.
I can assure you that lack of money wasn't the reason for getting a subie. Some German cars are nice...the d-bags driving most them...err, not so good. When I had my BMW, I felt like I was purchasing too many pairs of dockers and far too many turtle necks ...and the Latte's flowed like water. But assuming that everyone wants a German car would be like me assuming that ALL german car owners are d-bags...and I know that isn't true.
your reasons for preferring a subaru are based solely on what others would think of you? i spend extra money on my cars so that they are fun for me and because i enjoy driving. worrying about what others think is pointless.
What point is that? You can't compare the two solely on price and power. People don't go out car shopping and go, "G35, 330, A4 or an STI". It's a different class car aimed at a different type of audience.
According to the new AutoWeek, they estimate the STI at $34,900. That same price gets you into the new Evo with the DSG and Bilstein suspension. Sorry Subaru, but $5000 price creep in four years is unacceptable, especially when the power is virtually unchanged. SOA seems ignorant of the fact that people want STIs but can't afford them and so buy WRXs. Making STIs more expensive equals less sales. The granola eating Subi fans with the disposable cash don't buy STIs...
Have fun drivin that POS glorified 350z in the winter.. even with snow tires its hopless. To me, that is NOT "economical"
you think that, huh? Again, missing the boat completely aren't you. I don't care what anyone thinks...I'm 32 and drive an STi with gold wheels, tinted windows and a loud arse exhaust. I honestly could care less what you think of my car...or anyone else for that matter. As long as it functions for my needs and isn't a maintenance nightmare (which by the way I've found most MB's to be). actually with snow tires it's a pretty good winter car...again, I had one and had it at ice races about 4 years ago. That wasn't the g35x either. Sorry, I still like the STi better, and it really isn't in the same class of cars.
dont get me wrong.... I love the G35.... one of the sexiest cars ever. I just dont think you can class them together.
Yeah I know what you mean. I'm not saying this is how I would approach it, I'm just saying that the "open market" will treat it this way.... I've got $35,000 cash in hand, what kind of car can I walk away with? At that dollar level you can get a whole lot of car. Not everyone is looking for raw performance in a car. If I could afford that much I'd kind of want to have some luxury. All the cars you listed are very strong performers but all have a lot more to offer than an sti when it comes to luxury. That's all.
Everyone and their dog drive G35s down here. I used to think they were cool but now they're on my "meh" list. The worst part is a lot of them don't even know it's a Nissan.
