^^call first. To my knowledge, a lot of the Checkers stores don't do that anymore. ...either that or they make an excuse so they won't have to go outside.

If you still can't find someone to check it for you, my scangauge can do it for you. (excludes lilred's Impreza RS. lol)

ah my friend.... this is why shops usually charge... cause they have the equipment $$$$$$$$$$$$ to do it... but most scan tools should be able to...

I got that code twice this last winter when it was really cold and I had to leave my car outside. I could just feel the engine stumble like it was about to stall, and the light came on. My car has run fine since. I think you're onto the right idea cleaning out the IAC, I haven't taken the time to clean mine out since it hasn't happened again.

I have a cheap pocket OBD scanner that I used to clear the code. If the problem doesn't re-occur, the light will go off on it's own after a while, but the code will stay in memory. Otherwise I think you can clear the ECU by disconnecting the battery for a while.

On my GC WRX, the IAC valve died on me and threw the same code. I even cleaned it a few times with throttlebody spray and used a new rubber gasket. My car ran very poor at low speeds for 2 months until I was able to afford a used one for $100 +shipping.

    Yup. :)
is it seriously not covered under drivetrain? what kind of bull@#$%!@#$%!@#$%!@#$%! is that?
i mean, if the engine isn't idling right, how is that not considered drivetrain?

Well it looks like what I did worked great, its idling the best it ever has.

I took air intake/carb cleaner and sprayed it like crazy in the IACV and let it sit for an hour

washed it out with sea foam

Filled it up with air intake/carb cleaner again and let it sit for about 15 mins.

dumped it out and then sprayed the hinges with WD-40 and let that sit in there for about 10 mins then installed it.

It sits at about 500rpm perfectly now. Wish I would of went all out when cleaning it before :/.

Yeah I practicly had to pull theeth to get the service guys at Minnetonka Subaru to even look the @#$%!@#$%!@#$%!@#$%!ing thing up.

"Could you look up a part and see if a certain part is covered under warranty"

"do you have the last 5(?) digits of your VIN"

    "not on me no"

"well we need that so I cant look it up"

"cant you look it up by my name?"

"you dont understand this system is very primitive"

"well then look up another subaru"

"I cant do that I need yours"

"I'm just trying to look if a parts covered under the warranty look up another Subaru. Cant you look up any WRX Vin and check the drivetrain warranty?"

"Sigh.. whats your name?" Ohh neat now you can look it up by name

I give him name and address info

    "Ok whats the part?"

    "IACV"

"do you have the part number?"

    "no"

"Well I cant look it up"

"I could go ask Brian in parts for it"

Frustrated he calls Brian and gets the part number and he is more then happy to tell me its not covered.

Who did you talk to at MTKA subaru? Next time you call, call in the PM and ask for Brian. Or call him directly. He always hooks me up.
