here is what i am trying to do over the summer. hopefully it will be done by august when the Renniasance festival starts (however this is unlikely). just thought it would be fun to post this up. FIY the forge is home made by me (w/ a little welding help from my dad). Heres the forge, this is running at about 2000 degrees F. and will cook hot dogs in < 1 second. (i have tried) another pic w/ flash here is the project @ temp. any questions feel free to ask, i will try to answer.(i am pretty new to this)
Now I'll be coming to you to make my knifes! Many Hmong knifes are made like that. They're very hard and dense. They don't bend, but crack or chip off. Supposely they're made from leaf springs back in Thailand/Laos. I want one!
lol, leaf springs especailly some of the older ones are really good for forging, and making knives from. although the hardness, and flexibility mostly depend on how you treat the knife (heat treating). i will have to see how this tunrs out. who know i might start taking orders lol (not likely). another thing is that my forge is too small for my current prject, and it is more suited for knife size projects.
