Well, it all started about 3 weeks ago when i installed, my nice shiny helix DP (3rd gen brand new) and Bosal cat-back. When i first installe the exhaust, my midpipe, and the DP, dont make a complete seal at the gasket, there is a tiny (aprox, 1mm) gap at the top of the seal. So i called suby dude(Great Cust Service) where i got it from, explained the problem to them, they said they would send out a new DP and a new Midpipe, and we would see if that works. Well i installed the new midpipe and dp, and there is still a small gap at the top of the seal. I am going to call them tomorrow, and see where we go from here. So so far i have installed this exhaust over 3 diffrent times with diffrent componets. Any suggestions on this before i send it all/or some of it back and try something else? If i try something else, what is a good 3" combo? Thanks guys.
Sorry to hear that, I'm running GPMoto headers and tbe, so far I have not had any problems, I really dont know what to suggest, cuz it does get pretty expensive. Good luck! C
Maybe something is causing the downpipe gasket to open up/bend like that. Or something like the wastegate has something sandwiched in between. Dumb question but did you try tightening the DP without the exhaust attached to it? Try to take pictures and send them to the vendor.
yes, i have tried every configureation i could try, I tried installing the downpipe, then mindpipe, then axel back.. I tried installing the DP, axle back, then mid pipe....everything. Its not the gasket thats bent, but the top of the two pieces there is a small gap.
I've had the same problem on both my car and another 03 WRX with both Perrin and Helix downpipes. It seems like the downpipe is almost at a slight upward angle. I ended up getting a local exhaust shop to just add an extra bend to my stock midpipe so it all mates up correctly now. In the future I think I will either get something with a flex joint or just get an entire TBE from one manufacturer. -Austin
