Hey all, I hope most of you checked out MOH's (TheWRX) post about the sale of his SRP Wrx. If you didn't here it is http://www.mnsubaru.com/forums/showthread.php?t=25983 I'm the new owner and am really excited to get this car looking good again, I got it home late monday night and it has a date on the frame rack next monday. Until then I've been getting it ready, I think I found all the parts I need from a salvage yard (most seem to be in really good shape thankfully) Just a few pictures for you all (sorry about the quality my cell phone is bad, ill get some with a better camera soon) : The ride home Work in progress with a close up of cowl damage Fender off The second picture is the worst of the damage I think, the drivers side also has a bent strut which will be replaced before the body shop if I have time, as the wheel is bowed out and I hate letting it sit and being moved like that. The only other area of concern is the A pillar and the dash has been pushed over so hopefully its not a huge hassle getting it back into position. I'll continue to post as progress is made, wish me luck guys. -Ryan
wow that last pic confused the crap out of me...lol... So is it just the strut that will need to replace??
From what it looks like its just the strut that needs replacing. But it might be more we'll see, I'll know more come Monday afternoon I hope. The body shop owner is my dad's bosses friend so hopefully he gives a good bargain.
Today was a good day, got the drivers side door out, got a saws-all and went to town and eventually got the latch to release. Also got the replacement parts in, the price was right so I'm not too disappointed that I'll have to paint them to match. Frame shop will take it as soon as I get it there. Said it shouldn't take him longer than two weeks which is good news. Got a replacement strut as well which, weather permitting, will go in tomorrow. After this its ready to head in. Some more pics from the cell phone (sorry again!) I even made this pic, finally got the stupid door off. Drivers side replacement rear door fit very well. The replacement door wouldn't fit, but the damage isn't as bad as I thought it would be. Thinking about keeping the two-tone silver-red look what do you guys think?
Haha sounds good to me Moh, want the doors back to red or do you like the silver/red look? Before the weather took a turn for the worst today we got the strut replaced and it seems to have done the trick, the wheel will need realignment but seems to be straight again. All in all not a hard or time consuming process. We were going to take a look at the dash after that but the rain came and hasn't stopped for long since. Good news is that it's ready to go to the frame shop now. Just a couple pics: My brothers 07 WRX and my 02 Old strut prior to removal more shots next week after the frame is good!
Yep, I agree...I sold it to the right guy... But DAM* those pics..I want to buy u a camera just so I can see some nicer pics..LOL..
Don't worry anymore guys, you motivated me to buy a charger for the digital camera, I'll go take some better pictures in a bit and post them! Thanks for the comments, the main reason for the progress is the faster I get it fixed the sooner I can drive this instead of my dodge stratus. A pretty good motivating factor! I'll post some better pictures a little later today and hopefully more after the frame shop does its thing.
Better pics finally! Bent strut anyone? Tire is straight again! Extent of the damage More to come but at least you don't have to send me a camera Moh.
The main reason I didn't want to swap was because I know people who can help me out and give me deals in the repair (especially frame repair) process. I really liked the color and thought it would be a fun repair project. Definitely agree with what wrexinator said as well, and I really want a membership in the bugeye mafia.
U should take my number I had 911...It's the best number...lol.. The new pics look much better.. Just out curiosty do u have an other big plans for the car after all the repairs?
We'll trailer axle is busted so hopefully tomorrow we'll find something that can transport this to the frame shop, its been a pain in my rear for the past two days! After its fixed up I'll probably go stage 2 and call it good for a while haha, haven't thought too much about it yet.
Due to lack of a decent trailer and an itch that will only be cured when this thing is fixed up I decided to drive this car without a door and a fender and it was a BLAST!! First off, before I drove it, I checked all the fluids and that good stuff and everything was in good shape. Used tie downs on any loose parts and took off. It drove awesome and smooth the whole way (40+ miles) we took all backroads (keep in mind I'm from the bumsville anyhow) I took some pics along the way. enjoy! Notice the corn fields and farm sites, it was loud as hell and i got hit by gravel but it was awesome in the middle of a texas two step! Thanks for the cracked windshield MOH!!! Check out that sweet fender! Random silo shot! I made it! Waiting to get fixted, sell/give me your suby emblem? Can't wait guy said week or two I think. -Ryan
Haha, great news, car will be done on Wednesday, guy said it didn't look bad at all and is going to fit the glass on for me and everything. Moh where did you get the JDM hoodscoop, I must have one! -ryan
Hey Guys, got it back tonight!!! Frame repair grand total came to 300$ and the fitment is spot on with both doors, the hood and fender. Just a small town shop but great work and resonable rates to say the least! Pictures to come tomorrow as its too dark right now but im very excited. Talked to my friend says he'll paint it and pull some dents for 600$ so not bad either. Exhaust going on friday as well so its nearly street legal!
Alright as promised here are the pictures, I just washed it, 3 months of crap doesn't come off all too easily but I'm working at it! Now the body work isn't perfect but with the shape the car was in you couldn't expect that and I didn't. For 300$ I feel he did a great job! Its going in for paint / further repair on thursday or friday of next week and he expected it to take him 3-4 days to get it right so probably the 24th or so for a rough estimate. The only headache I don't have a decent answer for is the dash, I might need to buy a new one if it won't fit right Shot of the cowl, keep in mind it will be smoothed out and repainted so it won't stay like this The A pillar once again will be smoothed out and painted The fender/ front this isnt the final fit so there are some gaps which I hope won't be so large in the final fit The driver rear quarter panel dent got pulled out and smoothed over nicely! From the front: still no badge on front The silver side of my two-tone ride More of door fitment The good side so there you have it, like I said for 300$ I feel very good about this. Exhaust is coming tomorrow, if anyone wants to drive 2.5 hours down to SW minnesota and join in on my brothers and I stage II install party let me know (I'll provide the beer!) haha but you have to stay for both installs!
do you have auto body experience? looks pretty good cant wait to see it finished. fixing it cheap may piss off the seller!!!!
hahahahah i have the badge for the front of that grill lol i was in the middle of paintin it when i bought mohs grill lol
fair is fair I want it back wrexinator!! haha j/k Is my best bet to go to a dealer? All I can find on ebay is the pink badge which isn't my fav! Also does anyone know what the piece that holds the weatherstripping to the doors is called, the part by the a-pillar that is molded hard plastic? I'm having a hard time trying to locate a non-mangled one. My auto body experience is fairly limited, but my ratchet skills are near impeccable so thats always a bonus. I'm excited to see how it comes out as well. So far so good!
Looking good. I had a civic with similiar accident, same side. I opted to send it to honda heaven. If I had heart like you, I wouldve had it fixed. NICE JOB. keep us posted..
