I had to bring my car to where I purchased it because they were talking some crazy mess about $600 to tear down the transmission to fix the syncro they think is broken. (I have the periodic grind when trying to go into 1st gear at a complete stop and periodic grindage in 3rd to 4th.)

I also have to have my ECU sent to subaru to be reflashed because the check engine light is on. I'm sure the ECU thing is no biggie as far as warranty goes, but I hope they dont try to void the warranty coverage on the transmission due to "Abuse", I don't know what the previous owner did, but I drive the car normally.

Do we have any MTKA techs in the house that are working on my car?

Is the grinding when going into first an issue that can be fixed? What causes it? My car does this but I am just in the habbit of going into second then first when I start out. Would this be covered under powertrain warranty?

The first gear grind is a trait of most Subarus. The 1st gear synchro is a really old design, called a baulk ring. The new 6mt I believe uses cone synchros. It's not something that can be fixed, short of a new gearset. I think the STI-RA gears have a double cone 1st synchro that can be retrofitted into our 5spd box. (The version 5 or 6 gears, I think). I've talked to Subaru people about it, and they've told me that it's just not a good idea to shift into 1st while moving. Every other car I've ever owned could do it, just not my RS or WRX. Just something to get used to....

It actually does it going into 4th gear as well. (the tech who took my car on a road test confirmed that it grinds in 1st, shifting from 3rd to 4th, and downshifting from 4th to 3rd and from 2nd to 1st.) It doesnt do this crap all the time but when it does its like "wtf".

Im guessing it can be fixed if they are going to take apart my transmission to fix the problem. They told me its a timely process. I really wish they could fix the "not being able to shift to 1st gear" problem, its kind of wack that you have to slug along in 2nd if you're going like 2mph and your car wont let you downshift.

Cool, well tell him to hook it up proper like!!

TBH I noticed a difference in service from the White Bear serivce center to your place at Minnetonka. I felt better as a customer and the guy who called me back from your place told me that the White bear service center almost sent my ECU to subaru for no reason. While the Minnetonka techs fixed the CEL already.

    Thanks for the good service!

Thanks for the Good Review! I was suprised when I heard that white bear wanted to send out your ECM for something subaru could do nothing for! Your EGT sensor was reading 392* constantly...which is not even close to right for normal conditions, causeing your CEL to come on!!

I don't know what White Bear was thinking telling you the ECU needed to be sent out, there is not even a reflash to fix the problem you were having.

Hey no problem, they even gave me the 2006 F-150 to drive today.
(I feel like a farmer or somethin in that thing)

I wasn't exactly sure what the deal was with the CEL. They told me it was something about an exaust sensor. EGT=Exaust Gas Temp right? Thanks for the info, I'm still learning over here![/quote]

Most likely it was damaged when it switched over from the factory uppipe, in case you didn't know it has a aftermarket one, I think it's a Helix.

White Bear Subaru send my ECU out three times to try to fix my misfire problems. I took it to Brooklyn park once and they fixed it by tightening a ground wire. Sad service at White bear......

Actually, I didn't know. The dealership told me it was stock besides the break calipers. If they are gonna come funny on the warranty for that, they can buy the car back.

    Thanks for the info man.
