yesterday i ws looking at the wiring behind my dash. just to see if i could find the wires that go to the fog lights, and change the ground to the chassis so that my fogs are on when my brights are on too.

while i am looking into the wires i notice that a buch of these are not plugged into anything. i also see 2 plugs right next to each other one is male the other female. they are bright green in color, and have 1 vertical slot and and 1 horizontal. so being curious i plugged them into each other.

now i turn on my car and my check engine light is flashing at me. needless to say i huridly unplugged it. does any one know what those plugs are for? or wh me CEL was flashing? i will try to post up a pic soon.

Probably diagnostic mode plugs. The WRX has them too, I bet every couple weeks someone posts on NASIOC about how they got a little too curious and plugged them together only to find that their car runs like crap.

    They are for "D Check"

All I've found them good for is to perform an output cycling check, KOEO (key on enginr off).

i plugged em together agian and this time put a code reader on it. basically it told me what i already knew. my MAF is broken. (which it isnt) i started it like that and it ran fine.

back to what i origanlly planned on doing. i dont know which wire is the ground from the fog light switch. there are 5 or 6 wires going in/out of that switch and then they dissapeir into the wire snake.

You know what you want to do is illegal right? Only 2 lights can be on when brights are engaged per MN regs. I'm not trying to talk you out of it, but I don't want to hear whining when you get a ticket.

I have been planing on setting my fog lights up so they are on when ever I push the button too, but for differnt reasons. I want to turn them on without turning on the lights for when there actualy is heavy snow and fog. I found out that they are useless. If main lights are on then you are already screwed. It was so bad one night I taped over the main lights... and turned on the fogs. I just need to remember to do that mod before i go to the UP where this always happen to me.

well, i am not so sure that i want to do this mod any more. jsut because i dont want to unleash a monster of wires while i am crammed under my dash.

i can believe that ther would be a law against to many lights, cause there is a law angainst everything cool. however this law cannot be enfornced very often. look at all the trucks that have big fogs on em. ect...

settle down, it doesnt state that fog lights with highbeams are illegal, it doesnt state that low beams with highbeams are illegal, all it says is that low beams and foglights can be operated at the same time, it says nothing about highbeams with any other lights, in fact it says nothing about highbeams. have you gotten pulled over for somthing like this?...btw nobody called you a liar, if what you posted was correct, my mazda, any saab, any s2000 would all fail this law, because low and high beams are on when highbeams are turned on, i give up, this is way off topic...
