I'm looking for opinions on whether buying a name brand turbo back exhaust is worth the money, compared to having an exhaust shop or even a performance shop build the same thing, minus the branding that comes with a lot of the price tags. What will a name brand kit do that a shop built one won't? Is there performance difference, or am I just paying for another window sticker I can put on my car?

A pipe is a pipe. Find the pipe diameter of your favorite brand name exhaust, and then have a shop weld you up an exhaust with the same diameter pipe and your choice of muffler. Some people will sweat this sort of thing, but honestly, when comparing turboback exhausts, you should really only concern yourself with the sound it makes, because HP gains between manufacturers are going to be trivial.

Mandrel bent piping is a plus. It cost money though.

Honestly, the ebay exhausts work well for the price, and may or may not need a little adjustment. An exhaust system consists of bent pipes that get dirty. Aside from maybe keeping the tip shiny, who cares.

my custom cat set up is going to cost almost 200 bucks less than the pre made name brand ones. resonators are 75-100 bucks and a good magnaflow muffler is less than 150. and if you know some one with a shop and that can weld, shouldnt cost more that 400 bucks. and then you have the exhaust ran exactly how you want it, the tip angled how you want it, and you know it was done the right way. my buddy has just a resonator and tip and it sounds mean as heck. custom for sure.
