My teenagers need a new computer...suggestions? Desktop. Not used for gaming, but a fair amount of homework and videos. Open on budget right now. Thanks

Use www.ibuypower.com their computer prices are about 30 dollars more than if you built the computer yourself.

how bout you just buy my desktop.

I'm leaving pretty soon and will only be keeping my laptop for storage reasons. The desktop is in phenomenal shape, is very fast, and will be MORE than enough computer than they will ever need.

I'll try to get home soon and give you more specs, but heres what I can think of off the top of my head.

    Dell 4400
    2.8 GHz processing speed
1 Gig RAM (or more, cant remember exactly)
    80 Gig harddrive
    CD drive
    CD-RW DVD player drive
    Windows XP
G-Force 3 game card (even though they wont use it)
    4 USB ports
    Keyboard/mouse (obviously)
    17" tube monitor

I was thinking somewhere around $300. I'll format the drive and reinstall windows, so everything will be fresh. I can also deliver to anywhere in the MPLS/ST Paul area. Its been a great computer, and I would love to keep it if I was given room to store it.

If its just for Homeworks and watching videos, I would get an Emachine set from Walmart or BestBuy. One of my buddy got a set more than 2yrs ago and it still works fine.

Keep in mind once they add Aol Instant messenger, Itunes, Limewire, etc. that the performance will slow unless they've got a good solid processor.

I'd also buy a computer that can be worked on easily. The advantage to the Dell above is that if you get a virus, you format and reinstall windows. It might take 2 hours. Its pretty bullet proof.

Yeah if you get a Emachine computer and they add AOL Instant Messanger like said above then the computer is slow as can be. It isnt good to get a cheap computer.

Why buy from Dell or imachine when you pay for A grade hardware and really get C grade ****?? Doesnt make much sense to me. Build your own, you'll be happy you did =)

^^ I liked macs for video editing, but ever since they started using intel chips i've lost all respect for them. All they have going for them is a good marketing team. O and uhhh, OSx10 is good, but yah.... Vista x64 is so much better.

Let me share a little helpful tip with ya jacky boy, to keep your processor from not bogging down with background ****. Go to start, run and type "msconfig" In there u can change which services and background programs you want to load when windows starts. Your puter is perfect for homework and videos.

I'm not sure what kind of specs and what not you're looking for, nor what your budget is. But I often check techbargains.com when looking for techy type deals.

Here is one that dell has going at the moment:

They are going to adding all that stuff. I'm interested. Let me get with you after looking at your puters' specs a little closer. Thanks

i hate to bump this old ass thread, but I've ordered a computer from thees guys... and I'm on week 4, and it still hasn't shipped yet. hopefully tomorrow, otherwise I'll have to call and raise hell, again.

i wouldn't wish these guys on my enemies.

from reports i found AFTER placing the order, Systemax BTO through Tiger Direct uses better quality parts for only a little bit more...

as a matter of fact, if it doesn't ship DAMN soon (See TOMORROW), I'll just cancel and order a systemax.

Since this thread got resurrected, I would like to point out that this is a very bad idea. All Walmart electronics are refurbished product. Specifically their computer equipment.
