i need a cheap/free desk for the shop. something that has a few drawers and a large enought top for a laptop and a bunch of paper work.
I have my uncle's Suburban for a while if you need help moving crap. I'm out of town this weekend, tho.
oh yeah...super cheap. we are totally straight up ballas over here. i dont want that cheap 5 g pool table crap
hey, I love my desk, and it cost me 75 dollars to make went to home depot, bought a kitchen counter for about 25 dollars. Reason for this was because it had a nice rounded edge for my wrist. Most desks do not. Also grabbed 4 peices of scrap wood to go underneath. Went to target and bought 2 cabinets. Turns out they are a great height for it, and with the wood on top, you can use all the drawers just fine. I like the color of the countertop and the cabinets too. They were about 25 dollars each. Dont know if youd like that or not but thought I would throw that out of others to know too. It works great for me, actualy did the same again other part of my office and have had a couple friends follow suit.
yeah, check menards clearance section in the door department, they usually have a good selection of scratch and dent doors for around $5 each. If you can find a nice smooth steel one (I've seen them there..), that'd make a good desktop.
I was going to take a picture of it with my pda phone, only to discover my 2gig mini sd card popped out! That never happens for me and ive spent a day looking for it now to no avail! GRRRRR! no music... no gps.... no videos.... dying.... .....
my mom used one as a desk for 18 years, always looked completely normal, she just put the phone over the hole where the doorknob used to be. my filing cabinet was like $10, just make sure the old door is flat obviously and not a routered out design one. also if you want something nicer, ikea sells single desktops by themselves. they also sell legs to go with them but you can jsut get a desktop from them. Theyre not too expensive, ~$20-$30 an are purrty. http://www.ikea.com/webapp/wcs/stor...Id=10103&storeId=12&langId=-1&productId=71745
CompUSA is selling everthing that can be removed from the store. Every desk, shelf and display case is for sale. Might want to look there.
All of them. I was at France and 494 yesterday and saw one of those huge desks with a label on it. Don't remember the price, wasn't looking real close. All kinds of cell phone glass cabinets and stuff all for sale.
RUN AWAY!!! the owner says after being attacked by the fuzzy little best buy with HUGE FANGS! whole region they are pulling out. agree about ikea too. wife worked in the recovery room for a long time. it is at the checkout. isntead of going upstairs, just go thru the registers and go far left. see if anything there you like, might have a scratch, might just be assembled and they didnt want to put it back out. If nothing is there then head up and look. I just cant stand edges on desks, even with a wrist pad for my mouse, when im typing i feel i always end up getting my wrist on the edge while thinking or something (im a gamer too) so after going to dozens of places i realized I must just be odd, so did the counter top. check them out while your looking at doors. I need to get an in home door handle lock come to think of it. Im gonna go look around for fun as well.
The CompUSA stuff is really expensive. I just went to the one in roseville. They wanted $100 for an old metal desk. $30 for a beat up two-drawer filing cabinet. The only thing that might be useful is if you wanted some display stuff for merchandise, like rotating wire racks or metal shelving.
