I am looking for an SA2000 helmet for the upcoming season. Anyone know where to find one other than Lou Fegers? I found a couple online that I like, but I'm a little leery of trying to buy one without trying it on.

    Thanks,

    Jeff

In the cities you have Bob's cycle (36 and rice st) and if you want to drive a bit, you can go to dennis kirk (rush city). DK will definitly have a larger selection and better prices (also have a scratch and dent store), but it is about a 50-60 mile trip up to rush city from the cities.

Good luck at Bob's or Dennis Kirk... they sell M rated helmets (at least the last time I checked). I bought mine through Lou Feggers, but I don't know where else other than, maybe, APEX SPG.

like Chin mentioned, Bob's Cycle does _not_ stock SA2000 compliant helmets, you need to find an auto racing specialist i think. I got my M2000 helmet for <$80 at Bob's and I'm happy with it, just an HJC 3/4 but it's enough for the slower speed stuff and was cheap. I'm with you on the shopping online thing, though there's a vendor on Nasioc with a clearance sale on SA2000 3/4 helmets for under $200 which is pretty amazing. Let me know where you have luck. (FWIW I haven't made the trip up to Dennis Krik yet, though I may soon, so I don't know what they have - call ahead to make sure and don't expect the salesmen to always know what they're talking about.)
    Please correct me if I'm wrong/if you've seen SA2000 helmets at Bob's.

What kind of racing are you doing? For autoX I am pretty sure you only need a Snell rating; whether M or SA doesn't matter. There are a lot of motorcycle helmets that are not Snell rated, but any shop should have a least a few that are.

I used to live right by Bob's but never really liked their selection; they cater mostly to the motocross crowd so the selection of "plain" helmets is pretty limited.

I haven't yet, but I will be taking my car to BIR this summer. I might also take it to MidAmerica. Even if I don't always drive it on those bigger tracks I will be riding along. Some clubs require SA2000 and I don't want to have to make the purchase more than once.
