ok, so here it goes. The house we're living in right now is going into foreclosure. Owner owes the bank big time and he told us straight out that he's letting it go to the bank. So July 1st, the house will be in for auction. The auction time period will go for 6mos. This is a nice Duplex in Murderapolis. So here are my Q's. "Appearenly", he's not paying the bank but still collecting rent from us which is no problem at the moment b/c the house is still in his name. When the house falls into the hands of the bank(starting July 1st), -DO WE HAVE THE RIGHT TO REFUSE PAY TO HIM? -GARBAGE AND WATER IS INCLUDED WITH THE RENT, WHO WILL PAY THESE IF WE'RE NOT PAYING HIM? (we still need these stuff b/c we're still living in the house) -WHAT ARE OUR RIGHTS AS RENTERS IN THIS SITUATION? (and yes we're planning on moving out but these are the problems right now that we gotta deal with) any advice will be appreciated, thanks.
this is relevant (it really is) it discusses the bills and who has to pay them, I'd also try to contact this "Home Line" they mention. http://www.kare11.com/news/news_article.aspx?storyid=779534
find out what bank is going to own it soon, and see if they wil rent it, or if you are intrested, buy it for cheap.
thanks Aegis, thats some useful info. next Q: Say the house goes into auction and there's a buyer What's gonna happen to us? will it be up to the new landlord?
There's no way we're "buying" this house unless its free. Its in "war-zone" neighborhoob(thats what I call it). Also, need to get out of 55411.
Quit paying rent. I did. Back in college, myself and a few other guys had a huge house we rented for several years -- the owner inherited it and didn't really know what to do with it. He agreed with us that he would reduce the rent if we took care of the yardwork and everything else. He said that the rent we were paying was just enough to cover the mortgage. Well he quit paying the mortgage and we started getting mail addressed to him from his bank. He quit answering his phone and wouldn't respond to letters. So we quit paying rent figuring he'd come banging on the door. Well, he didn't. We ended up living in the place rent free for something like 8 months until we got our final notice from that bank that we had to move out. lawl.
Naw, he didn't die. He was like the 2nd cousin of one of my roommates. If he died, I'm sure somebody from his family would've told us. <3
