I've been beating myself, and my cats, trying to get my EVAP 457 CEL problem solved. Not the gas cap, not the fuel tank seal, not hoses around purge valve, no pre-turbo intake leak, charcoal canister and hoses seem intact... Is it time to take it to a subie with diagnostic tools? Where's a good place to go?
As I said in your other threads, it sounds like you have the electronic problem. There is a seliniod on the charcol canister that the wiring goes bad. Search NASIOC for the details how to fix the issue.
You've already used the "diagnostic tools" -- you read the CEL code. I would follow bikerboy's suggestion and check the solenoid in the charcoal canister.
is the actual canister inside the black box? i may be confused about it. i found this http://www.scoobymods.com/forums/showthread.php?t=4136&highlight=cold+solder
We would be able to take a look at it, at my shop. We have all the proper diagnostic tools. I just traced a similar problem on Gridlocked's car a few days back, and that was just a fuel pump plate seal. So I went to David Wray Auto, wonderful shop I might add, those guys know their subies and have great prices. They found the EVAP leak and traced it to the canister solenoid. It had something to do with the wiring getting to the solenoid. See my diagram... I've checked everything out and it seems fine, but the EVAP leak still exist. Am I testing something wrong? Mike was saying it was not getting a proper ground, but I thought my tests prove that it is.
I have (well still have for other reasons) a similar CEL. I went under the passengers side rear of the car and started looking at wires. One was completely disconnected. I conneted it, but while I was there took off the plastic casing and inspected all the wire I could get to. I've heard that people have found broken wires INSIDE of the "protective" casing. Just a thought.
What about the connection between the plug (where you indicated you added a jumper) and the actual circuit in the canister? I think that is what Gridlocked may be getting at as well?
i would suggest finding a shop that uses a fog machine, and trying to track it down that way, perhaps you have some kind of silly leak.
What do you mean by a complete circuit? Just because there is continuity, doesn't mean it will work...think 'short'.
