    Which one would you choose?

This will be used for taking casual shots; nothing too fancy and also for vlogging.

I would personally buy a Nikon, but that's cause that's what I shoot. Which makes me horrible bias, and Nikon shooters are suppose to hate Canon cameras, but I figure everyone has different needs and desires. Pick what makes you happy.

I would recomend going someplace where you can hold them side by side and figure out which grip feels better to you. Both cameras are really good for stills and video, so it depends on the lens and grip.
    Good luck.

D5100 was my second camera. I personally don't recommend SLR cameras to people that aren't going to put in the time and effort (and money) to use them for what they should be used for.

FYI, a 50mm f/1.8G would be a very good idea to add to that camera. I'd ask which lenses you got with it but I'm assuming kit lenses which leave a little to be desired.

Disclaimer: Take what I say with a grain of salt, I've invested a lot of time and money into photography but what I say/do isn't always right.

I agree with Mike4king, the 50 1.8 is a pretty decent lens for the price.
I would also look at the 35 1.8. Around $140 on Craigslist and gets you to the 50ishmm perspective on a DX camera.

Photography is what I spend all my money on these days.

Yep lol was thinking either the 35 or 50. This was actually a bday gift for my girlfriend. I was originally planning to grab the 5300 but she didn't care for WiFi/GPS

Ok, I actually think the 5300 is a step back from the 5200, more money and what it add is not that great.
Sometimes the best thing to do is meet up with a ton of lens and try them out and see what best suits you, or her as it may be.
Did it come with the 18-55? Which in all reality is a pretty good lens. In my option.
