    Hey everyone,

I'm working on a website that lists car parts for every major performance vehicle out there and am in need of some criticiqueing of my list. I have a few Subarus figured out from various FAQs and Wiki pages. But I need to confirm them and expand the list out further.

    Impreza 1993-1997 1.8L I4
    Impreza 1995-2000 2.2L I4
    Impreza 1998-2000 2.5L I4 RS
    Impreza 2001-2004 12 2.5L I4
    Impreza WRX 2002-2004 2.0L I4 Turbo
    Impreza WRX 2004-2005 2.5L I4 Turbo STI
    Impreza WRX 2005-2006 2.5L I4 Turbo
    Impreza 2005-2006 2.5L I4
    Impreza WRX 2006-2006 2.5L I4 Turbo STI

Are these correct? Can anyone fill me in to make sure the latest info is correct. What are the year breaks for changes? Can I get stats for other popular Subarus.. like Legacy, and Outback?

Thanks, and I appreciate the help. I want this site I'm making to be huge!

i belive I is for inline? that is wrong subies have horizontally opposed engines. so it shoul dbe H4 or H6.

    lets see here:
1993-1996 Impreza can be FWD not all are.
i believe that the 2.2l was used until 2001 in impreza l's.
1998-01 the 2.5l RS was available in the GC/GM bodystyles. 98 had DOHC, 99+ are SOHC. the 01s have LSDs in the rear.
    02-05 are GD bodystyle RS's, 06 2.5ls are i's not RS's.
in 2005 the wrx was a 2.0l not a 2.5l, that change happened in 06

and if you really want to get finicky there are minor body changes that occured.
    such as:
impreza L's dont have fender braces, the headlights changed shape around '97 i think.
the 02-03 GD cars have teh differnt front end then the 04-05, and also form the 06s.

You might want to go into DOHC and the SOHC engines

    I do.

Basically what I want is every popularly available engine and body style. If there was some model that had everything all the others did + leather interior.. it doesn't really matter. Just need basically all the styles and the engines that went into them.

Looks like I am pretty off if what you are saying is true. Good thing I only have products for the new WRX's and STI's so far.

first off, you probably should drop the "I" from the beginning of every one of those engine descriptions. our engines aren't Inline, their flat.

The 4 cylinder marking would be better started with an H, as that more closely resembles the piston layout of a subaru engine, when looked at from above.

    Gotcha. We've established that part.

I always wondered why the other cars were called 3.0 H6 or whatever. Now that makes sense.

Thanks.. a few bits I could use in there it looks like.

    Martin is right.

The 2.2L H4 was available in Impreza's up to 2001MY. In 2002 the engine was only a 2.5L N/A H4 in the RS, and a 2.0L DOHC H4 Turbo in the WRX. The WRX was a 2.0L from '02-'05. The '06 WRX has the 2.5L H4 Turbo.
98 Impreza's could have had the 2.5L DOHC also.
2004 was the release of the V8 STi which has the 2.5L H4 Turbo which is still used in the 06-07MY.

Might want to mention the Forester XT also. First year was '04, which runs the same block as the 04 STi.

Made a few changes.. but I still feel like I'm a little off.

I can't find too much info about vehicles made pre-2001 though.

    Here is what I have:

    Impreza 1993-1997 1.8L H4
    Impreza RS 1998-1998 2.5L H4 DOHC
    Impreza RS 1999-2001 2.5L H4 SOHC
    Impreza 2001-2005 2.0L H4
    Impreza WRX 2002-2004 2.0L H4 Turbo
    Impreza WRX STI 2004-2005 2.0L H4 Turbo
    Impreza WRX 2005-2006 2.0L H4 Turbo
    Impreza 2006-2007 2.5L H4
    Impreza WRX STI 2006-2006 2.5L H4 Turbo

Would be good to have a good list made up. I'm already getting products and companies in to the database. If anyone knows of any good Subaru parts suppliers, dealers, companies.. etc. Let me know!

Also.. looking for more info on the Outback, Forrester.. etc.

    2005 STi 2.5L H4........ not 2.0L

    I think all U.S. STi's are 2.5L

Oh... and someone else will need to verify this but I think 2006 WRX is also a 2.5L but I could be wrong on that one.

Correct. all the 2006+ Vehicles to my knowledge carry a 4-Cylnder, 2.5L engine (except 6 Cylnder models) either turbo or non turbo.

    RIP USDM 2L WRX engine...

Does anyone know the years they had for each body style and engine for the late model Impreza?

The 2.5L was in all 2006+, but did they change the body slightly in 2005? Or was it 2006 as well?

Does the WRX now have the same engine on the STI? When did they drop the 2.0L engine for those? 2006 would be the cut off as you say they no longer do 2.0's... but could some of them changed over earlier? All STI's have the 2.5L?

According to the Wiki (and it needs to be more detailed!) they changed to 2.5L and designed the front in mid 2005? As a 2005 model or as a 2006 model?

    Thanks for all the help!

Nothing changed in 2005 body wise. The transmission had some minor changes.

yes, but it has a slightly thinner head gasket so the compression ratio is .5:1 higher than the STi engine. This is because its running a smaller amount of boost.

um, well if you know they started making the 2.5 in 06 thats a big clue as to when they dropped the 2.0L. Nothing changed early. all alfa grille cars have 2.5 liter moters in them. All blob eye WRX's are 2 liters. Same with the bug eyes. All pre alfa front WRX's have the same engine.

All STi's have the same engine regardless of the year.

In subaru land ALL model years are consistent engine wise. there was never a change mid model year. you aren't going to find any 2.5L 2005 WRX's if that's what you're looking for. In the year 2005 they were selling the 2006 model year.

Did the STI not get the different Alfa grill in 2006?

Same for Impreza's?? I need these split up by body style changes as well as engine changes.

All cars got the same grilles at the same time. no weird overlaps anywhere. All the answers are in the preceding posts. It's not that complicated.

My previous post pretty much has the entire list in it.

    I know.

I'm going off of FuJi K's list though.. other than 2006 what other changes happened? Like in previous years? It got changed in 2002? What about earlier?

No changes from 95 to 2002? or 93-97?
