Looking to pick up a new phone soon as my contract with Cingular is up and I am thinking of jumping over to Verizon. I would like to get a PDA/Smartphone like the Motorola Q but wondering if there is maybe something better out there or something better I should hold out for. I have heard good reviews on the Motorolla Q but would hate to drop money on a phone and a better one pop up within a month. Especially when I am stuck with it for 2 years. Thanks
what are your reasons for wanting a PDA phone? or the Q? Technology changes way to fast. Newer better phones are going to pop up every 3-6 months.
I need something with a qwerty keyboard, windows mobile so that I can sync my email, calendar and tasks up with something mobile. I also do a lot of promoting downtown so it would be nice not to have to text with the regular number pad. I currently have a Zire71 but I dont want to carry around a phone and a palm pilot anymore, just too much to carry around. I know the Q has been out for a while and I like the design although I do realize that technology is changing rapidly and that is why I am wondering if anyone has heard of any updates to the Q or if there is something new on the horizon perhaps with wifi built in.
i work for cingular so only really educate myself on our products, not sure if verizon offers a wifi compatable phone. We do however offer a cingular 8525 that has wifi and the works with a fully qwerty keyboard. Then on the horizon there is of course the iPhone that is supposed to be the best of the best with wifi and such. As far as the data phones go though, most companies make you sign up with one of there data plans to go along with the phone in order to recieve any of the full discounts. IE:8525 w/ data plan =$399.99 8525 w/o data plan=499.99. data plans range from 29.99-59.99 per month on top of your already existing voice plan. Data plan is unlimited internet access to html sites, cingular's media net, and e mail, depending on the phone up to 7 email accounts on one phone.
Thanks, Do you know who is going to carry the Prada phone from LG. Looks pretty cool, something similar to the iPhone. Also when do you get the iPhone?
ordered a treo online and took it to a t-mobile place to buy a SIM card. They give you harassment, but eventually let me do just that. I have given up the treo, and stuck my SIM into an old Nokia. As far as plans go, I would never sign up for a "plan" cause I don't want people digging into my bank accounts. It really is a nice way to go, you just gotta remember to buy the minutes, but they usually let you know when you're running out. I have no probelms with buying minutes cause I don't need the phone constantly .. but I swear, if this guy keeps on leaving me VM for someone that I am not, I'm gonna call him and give him my $.02  I suppose my point would be that you can buy any PDA phone and take it to any provider, and get a plan through them as long as they have SIM cards. Or you can just spend what I think is way too much money for a combination phone +plan .. and all those other things they toss in there too - like IM and wifi and all that fun stuff that is not necessary with a phone. Ahh .. can you tell that cell phones are one of my biggest pet peeves? And I have one!
the LG rep told me that we were going to carry the prada phone, but dont know for sure, never know till it actually hits the store.
If I can give one line of advice: go with functionality of the phone +100 over the style/look, you'll be much more happy with the purchase in the long run. Research the model online and make sure it gets good service (remember, it's always the phone + plan that make up the service, but verizon is quite good), is easy to use, doesn't have hardware (and software, if you're going with a PDA device problems) etc. One more: Palm OS is much better then windows mobile. (ok, that was more then one line)
Thats definitely your opinion, but I would disagree . I have had a Treo 650, a PPC-6700 and now the Q (all on Sprint) All devices had their advantages and disadvantages. The Treo line is more phone first and PDA second. The PPC-6700 is the opposite. It all depends on what you are looking for. Verizon phones are cheaper but their data plan is $45 per month for unlimited use. Sprint versions usually cost more but the unlimited data plan is only $15 per month. Sprint will be cheaper in the long run. I really love the Q. I don't miss carrying around those other bricks, but you do give up battery life with the Q. I usuallly charge my phone every other night and don't ever run out of juice. Figure out what you plan to use it for, then pick the device. Don't pick a device first. The iPhone is just hype at this point. (Apple doesn't even own the name yet!) Of course this is just my opinion...
Go Sprint. They just started offering the Q They have the cheapest unlimited Data plan @ $15 month and nights start at 7pm! I don't work for them, we have sprint through work, I have a Palm 700wx. Plus there seems to be some browsing on the Verizon network, so best of both worlds.
i wont promote or bash any carrier...ive done enough of that in other threads, but i will for sure bash a brand of phone...motorolla, they make the big huge clunky phones very well...THATS IT! dont ever by a razor, a sliver, or that other old one that only came in blue POS POS POS
I have the LG VX8300.....I dunno if that'll suit your needs. it's a music phone though.... maybe not...
i love verizon.. never had a dropped call or problem in 3 years..my samsung phone is ******* deeeeep. also *****
