So last week babycakes's radiator froze and coolant exploded all over the engine, got a new/used radiator and the fans and coolant resivor don't fit, oh well.... Hook it all up put in new right mixed coolant and it's not circulating right.... The heater core is frozen. Get out the space heater and set it up to thaw it out, turn my back for 10 min and there's smoke coming out of the cabin of my car, there is now a head sized hole in my glove box. Screw babycakes I'll deal with her later. My mom let's me take her legacey Down to the cities. This afternoon I drive to mound from Hopkins and I get there and the cars smoking. There is oil all over. The cam seal is screwed.... Check the oil, bone dry. Go buy oil put 5 qts in and go back to hopkins. There's slight rod knock going on, oh well for now. Get back to Hopkins and the knocking is worse and there is this sqweaking sound now and the oil is bone dry again! Long story short, my moms car is F-ed and I have no way home... /rant Also, dose any one know the policies on renting cars? Do you have to be 25?
I believe you can rent a car if you are under 25 but you will pay more for it. I got tires the right size for brians car if he has 16 inch rims. you could then maybe take his truck.
Maybe your luck will turn around by going to North Minneapolis and borrowing a non-returnable car. Hope it all works out! and if not then post on craigslist's rideshare.
Wow. so sorry to hear that. I wish we would have known, we had 5 people in 4 cars coming up from town today....... also, I hate to add to the bad news....but if your coolant froze in your radiator and heater core, it may have destroyed the cooling jackets in the motor. if it helps, and we can find a way to get it to you, you can have the EJ18 longblock in my parents garage in the western cities. it's less than ideal...but it might help get you back on the road.
yes if you are under 25 you still can rent a car, but there is a fee that goes along with it. Sometimes they will wave the fee
Under 25, enterprise has the lowest fee ($10 iirc), but will not do one-way Hertz has a high under-age fee, but one-way is easy. Don't rent from an airport location as the tatxes are insane.
She killed 2 cars and feels like ****, and you are concerned about YOUR exhaust...real nice  Chux, I know the 2.2 might be donzo, but I wasn't gonna tell her that until she got home...I still need to thaw it out and diagnose it...And We have a spare 2.5 block that could go it it too. High Compression freak motor ftw haha And Kalie, Kyle's right, there is a more than usual amount of buses running back and forth because of the holiday weekend...
Wow, I'm sorry to hear about the problems you've been having. But yes, you can rent a car if you're under 25. When I did a rental from Enterprise I think they had a larger security deposit, but that was about it. Good luck, I hope things turn around for you soon.
i might be able to get you to st cloud tomorrow if i can get a new knock sensor by then...gimme a call and maybe i can take my dads car, i think you still have my # by the way this is Evan
who is the hack that didnt mix the antifreeze right in your rad? If its just slush it will probably be fine, but it takes ALOT of water to make anti-freeze freeze.
I put a 50/50 blend water/coolant in there in september. I have no idea how/ why it froze, but it did.
Very few locations will do it, but it is a pain in the ass. Enterprise doesn't work like hertz and cannot easily move cars between regions. They can do one way within a region (Minneapolis- St paul), but generally cannot do it in a larger area like MSP-Duluth. They have no way of returning the car. Each region "owns" the car so they need it back. Hertz doesn't use this system and their network is more fluid. I've had NY cars in Utah.
oops....didn't mean to prematurely add to the stress factors meh, high compression freak = high maintenence. the 1.8 would be gutless, but it would be cheap, and probably more reliable (and it's stained a nice red color.....it's been submerged at gilbert :yumyum: )
