please deposit nemadji media in this thread as you come across it here is the photo set from adam schreiner http://www.flickr.com/photos/kdmy0/sets/72157617947325484/ (higher res on his site) I have some in car I need to upload. unfortunately we only recorded our crappy runs (the first ones where I was still learning the car at speed and the one where dave got off in the notes for a few corners - some language is not pg ) ran out of tape for the last stage where it all really came together and we had our fastest time of the day.
thanks for the pics guys. I started a thread on specialstage as well to try and round up some more pics http://specialstage.com/forums/showthread.php?t=36717
I have about 800 or so that I need to pick through and get uploaded. Hopefully I can get a couple of teasers up today and have the rest of them up by tomorrow. And Scuba Steve, most of the co-drivers did this as they went past me.:wavey: Mark U was kinda enough to throw about 50lbs of gravel my way. As I get my pictures uploaded, you will be able to see the funny in these statements. Russ
That is true. It was more directed at Dave tho. I might also have to re-think the bright coat since it gives everyone something to aim for..... Russ
Holy crap Andrew got FAT. Hes been hanging around stinktie rally aka nitro ******* rally too much. Im also surprised you dont have any pictures of your girlfriend vomitting in deputy dans general direction. The mortified look on her face during most of his stories makes me worry that we will never have heath bar cookies again
Ok, these are just a camera dump with a resize. I will work on hacking and slashing some of the keepers from here. Yes Carl, I will get you full res on all yours so you can hack and slash what you want. Gallery http://subiewrx.smugmug.com/gallery/8168156_7mL44#533226878_C2Kfj Some of the ones that stick out for me. Hey Dave.. And Mark grooming the ditch. Russ
what a great bunch of cars out there. i love the capri. as much as i love the subaru boxer at full tilt the big 8s in jim and mark's vehicles are my favorite.
Me three, but I'm a little biased. In car from stage 2 can be seen here . The sound is TERRIBLE so feel free to hit mute and listen to your own favorite tune while viewing. We did a 7.41 on this stage and it felt FAST.
Mark it's very enlightening for me to watch your in-car. Our fastest time was about 1.5 minutes slower and it's interesting to see exactly where the time comes from (although we weren't really driving for speed but conservatively to meet our goal of not DNFing - it's still good to see how things compare)
Carl, You and your team did great. You finished your first rally, nuff said. That makes you one of the SMART idiots that have become addicted to the drug we call rally. Going through the pics, this one makes me smile. http://subiewrx.smugmug.com/gallery/8168156_7mL44#533257968_KdeXu-A-LB I like outrunning the camera. I also like seeing the dust showing me what the wing is doing.
YES! I always wanted to wire a horn onto the right side of the car. I used scream at spectators all the time.
Mark, You looked awesome!! We appreciated the excavating you and Mike were doing old school style. Impressive!!
Just giving you a hard time. I think pretty much every co-driver I could see in the car, either waved or looked over, except you (atleast on stages 2 and 4). I can't really see into the cars too much on 1 and 3 since there was so much glare on the windshield. Russ
mark, i keep forgetting to ask about the suspension on the mustang. what changes have been made to it? are the geometery and mounting still stock?
Here is something I found interesting in your video, not sure if others noticed either or if the amazing Utecht had it intended this way. I found that having white racing strips down the center of the car really help as a reference on these gravel roads; acting kinda like a gauge for slip angle. It was very easy to follow at least in the video it did. And its pretty obvious to also see when you were off the throttle. Now you make me want some racing strips on my red car. LOL Here a rally question for ya: Since there is quite a bit of slip angle, when coming into these corners at speed what are using to help decide how to initiate steering angle and throttle to get thru the corner. Walk us thru the steps. Thnx Oh and I took your advise, I muted the video and listened to "Let the bodies hit the floor!" LOL
mark's video reminds me of when i put my stereo to AM static. it is like having an tachometer with sound.
Haha! I love those guys! They bring back great memories... who knew you could powerslide a giant van with hand controls?
Did you see the Top Gear episode where they made their own police cars? On James' car the 'siren' was ice cream truck music and on Jeremy's it was a cow mooing repeatedly. I say go with the ice cream truck music
that could be fun...and very creepy. Especially if I kept hitting it throughout the night stages....:eek4:
I will try to describe the theory below. However, I must tell you that it is now something I don't actively think about. It is now more like my butt tells my legs and hands what to do and they don't bother to tell my brain what is going on. I don't mean to try to sound funny but I actually get to enjoy the ride more now that I am more comfortable with the car. Also the big engine is actually making it easier to drive. The huge torque allows me to put the car in 4th and steer. The trick is keeping my foot on the floor as much as possible and trusting that the car will stick. Back to the original question, you have to keep two things in mind, weight transfer and friction circle. If I have to lift or brake for a corner, I usually turn in before applying full throttle. This rotates the car QUICKLY as all the weight of the car is on the front tires. Also, the drag of the engine is sort of dragging the rear tires. Then I get on the gas to transfer the weight to the back to stop the rotation and put down the power. If I am in third gear or lower, I may need to use less than full throttle as the power of my car can overcome the friction circle of the rear tires in a corner. There is only so much grip available and if you are doing two things with the available grip, those two things need to learn to share or somebody ends up crying. If the corner does not require a lift off the throttle, the severity of the corner will dictate the severity of the turn in. If it is a smooth corner that I can accelerate all the way through, I use a gentle turn in to minimize the slide. That maximizes the exit speed by not scrubbing momentum. If the corner is a little more severe but still doesn't require a lift, I will use an abrupt turn in. This will induce more oversteer and thus scrub a slight amount of speed. However, since there was no lift, the weight stayed on the back tires and the oversteer never gets out of hand. Part of what I love about rally is the fact that it has it's own rules that often have nothing to do with tarmac racing. Sometimes, snap oversteer is good. Sometimes, locking the brakes is good. Sometimes, excessive wheelspin is good. All these are usually very bad in tarmac racing. Ultimately, it is about tuning your own ass-o-meter and getting it to talk to your feet and hands without bothering your brain. As far as I am concerned, my brain is usually the part that screws things up. I drive the best when I don't think about it. Just rug it and steer! http://www.youtube.com/user/29mustang
