Hey all, new to the site but been a Subaru owner for about 2 and a half years now. I'm currently living in Winnipeg, Canada but am moving down to the twin cities in the next couple of months. My car is a 02 WRB WRX with a lot of 2004 sti parts(short block , transmission, struts, brakes, turbo etc...). I also have 850cc injectors and an upgraded exhaust. Does anyone know if I will have troubles getting the car insured in the states due to inspections or anything like that? It is a USDM model but has been in Canada for quite a few years now.
Welcome. Should be fine if it has a usdm vin. Give dvs a call https://dps.mn.gov/divisions/dvs/contact/Pages/default.aspx
Haha. I never even noticed how much I said "eh?" till I was in Minneapolis last weekend. Always up for a beer though.
I never noticed how much Minnesotan's say yabetcha and donchaknow until I moved up here. It really was like watching Fargo. I imagine visiting Canada would be like watching Strange Brew What brings you down here?
donchaknow cracks me up every time I hear it. Strange brew is pretty much bang on! The company I am working for is closing down the office here and moving down to Minneapolis. So I am heading down with them.
This thread reminds me way too much of that video that was posted back awhile ago... So for the newcomer: Just study hard, and you'll do just fine, or don't, and you'll probably be alright too.
That's funny, everyone at work who is moving down to Minnesota has been watching things like this. Some of them are pretty good.
Yesssssss...the video I posted has a purpose now! I forgot to update the initial thread, but I showed it to a guy at work and turns out his HS English teacher was the guy in the skit about trying to leave someones house. Small world. Here are a couple of tips for living in MN: - Always be prepared to talk about the weather (aka complain about the weather). - Know how discuss how all that MN sports teams do are let the fans down. - Anything North of the Twin Cities is 'Up North'. Welcome!
I got a call or two from recruiters about positions they are hiring for, how many people are making the move? What do you do for them?
I think there are about 30 making the move from Winnipeg. I am an RF/Electrical Engineer in the R&D department.
How are they handling work status / visas? I know a couple of embedded systems guys and a roboticist looking for new gigs, if you guys still need people.
They have supplied a lawyer for us for visas and are paying moving costs etc... We don't do too much embedded work here but that could change. The roboticist should apply, I am not sure if they are hiring in that department right now but the work is super cool .
