Anyone driven one of these? Russ, you being the guru of automatic I was wondering your input on this as well. I'm now undecided as to my next car. I was going to get an 06 Evo RS when they came out but then I started looking at the new Legacy GTs. I can imagine what I'd be getting into with the MT but I'm curious as to the 5EATs ability. Not to mention the new GTs are great-looking cars.

It all comes down to who can cut the better deal. The Evo RS MSRP is higher than the LGT, but not by much. There have been folks getting an RS for well under list, and since the 06 RS may only come in white I don't think the demand will be very high for the street crowd. But then the LGT has a lot more comforts for the money and still a lot of performance with it. I guess I'll have to go take some test drives and find out which I like more.

I talked to my insurance agent today and I found that my premiums are actually very reasonable for those two. $720 for the Evo RS and $670 for the LGT. Having a clean driving record rules :D

The auto in the legacy GT is nice, I have ridden in Russ' GF's car and it was quite nice. Shifts pretty hard and has the manual shifting option on the steering wheel.

I like it. It does shift pretty hard for being stock, and there is a definite difference in performance between the sport mode and std mode. I have played with the manual shifting a bit and it is kinda fun, and if you use the steering wheel controls it does shift pretty quick. In all, I was fairly impressed.

i've had my fair share of manual matics but then mine's a mazda 6 5spd auto. It engages really hard during a shift, just like in a manual. Like Russ said, that's really impressive considering it's like that stock. The only downside to it is that when in manual mode, it shifts slow, take a second or two before it'll upshift for you. In automatic mode it just shifts instantly and engages just like a manual and it goes all the way to redline before it shifts but i hate it how it automatically goes into neutral when you let off or doesnt stay in the RPM range needed when on light throttle. This is what I've experience with a 5spd automatic Mazda 6....the LGT may differ.

I was gonna hop down to Morrie's and see if they had one to take out for a spin but with the weather today I think I'm just going to do my errands and keep home today. Maybe I'll get over there after work this week.
