I like how a defensive anti-ballistic missile shield that we offer to share with the Russians can trigger an arms race. Does that mean bullet-proof vests triggered an arms race?

Putin is a strong handed thug. Anyone who openly assassinates vocal critics and places his "groomed" replacement in line for succession shouldn't be trusted at all.

Can't remember who said this unfortunatately, maybe Einstein, but a great quote:

"You can not simultaneously prepare for and prevent war."

Eisenhower warned that a strong military industrial complex, if established, would direct America's future course into more wars. Gotta make a profit, right?

    Just a few thoughts...

Well Nate, what do you want, he used to be KGB spy. Sometimes, however, I feel like Russia needs a strong "father" if you know what I mean. Russians can't live in a real democracy and most of them done even care you the president is as long as they get what they want.

I suspect this is mostly sabre rattling. Russia is very concerned that Ukraine is considering joining NATO, and the corresponding Nato military presence that would develop on the Black Sea.

Personally I'm much more worried about Afghanistan than Russia.

I cant believe Putin said on TV that Ukrainian people dont even want Ukraine to join Nato, which is BS. Would they want to join Russia? F*** NO!

    that's IT!

We serve an old man in a dry season
A lighthouse keeper in the desert sun
Dreamers of sleepers and white treason
We dream of rain and the history of the gun
There's a lighthouse in the middle of Prussia
A white house in a red square
I'm living in films for the sake of Russia
A Kino Runner for the DDR
And the fifty-two daughters of the revolution
    Turn the gold to chrome
    Gift...nothing to lose
Stuck inside of Memphis with the mobile home, sing:

    Mother Russia
    Mother Russia
Mother Russia rain down down down

Putin is a thug. Plain and simple.

I think it's funny that he's rattling sabers that he can't really back up. The Russian military used to be known as the "Rompin, stompin Red Ass". Their tactics were based on their sheer numbers, they'd simply steamroller over whatever was in their path. Forget the flanking, enveloping manuvers. Just take them straight on.

Their current military is hurting badly. Their Navy is mostly pierside, rusting away due to lack of funding and educated troops to man them. The Air Forces aren't much better. Russia isn't happy that they're not being recognized as a superpower and I think that this may be part of them trying to show they're still relevant. I like how a defensive (not offensive) system can make him try to show that the US is the aggressor.

Yeah, I don't have much respect for Putin either. That whole ricin poisoning thing in the Ukraine a few years ago during the election was a joke. It had the KGB's prints all over it.
