hmm most sounds ok. a little strict. we really get points for talking about street racing or is that a joke?
nope not a joke. The rules are pretty closely modeled on what most sites do. If you want to talk about street racing, there's plenty of other places to do it, we'd just rather keep it off of the site. Street racing talk was already discouraged under the old set of rules. All of the people here that do it know each other closely and communicate constantly, so I don't see it as being that great of an obstruction to your lives. This site needs to have a good reputation to be a respected member of the auto community around here, and unfortunately that means we have other people's standards to adhere to. You're a business person, surely you can understand that you don't want your name associated with something that might be distasteful to potential clients? It's pretty much the same situation here.
meh. It sounds a little uptight, but I doubt anyone who isn't a knuckle head will even notice anything different. It's a discussion board with a bunch of mostly adults having discussions. Nothing new, just netiquette 101 here folks.
By the way, the other message board I usually frequent (non-subaru) is pretty much a free-for-all by way of rules, as in, there aren't any. And let me just say, we don't want this forum to be like that. I like that I can have a relatively on topic conversation here. But when I'm in the mood to be silly and drop f-bombs all over the place, I've got a place to go. It's the internet, there is always another venue for tomfoolery, so I'm pretty neutral on this. But if someone has something meaningful to say at some point and they get modded out of existence just because they don't meet some arbitrary guideline, I'll be the first to cry fowl. But everyone here seems to be relatively reasonable, so I'm not really worried about anything.
There's a typo at the end of the rules. "If a second BAD is required it will be for 30 days." I'm assuming it's supposed to be "BAN" Just thought I'd put that out there.
Kites and Rules are Fun I have no problem with the rules. Commen sense stuff right. Mike Hawk and I (buddy of mine) were talking about how threads can get off topic/and or out of line pretty quick sometimes. I'm all for the new rule guidelines.
Wow, that's a lot of rules for a site this size. Kinda takes away from the small community feel. Was there a reason to go this strict? I've seen some stuff here and there that gets out of hand (it'll always happen) but I have seen anything that would warrant something like that.
I'm fine with the rules as I don't think I have ever done anything that would get me "points" up to this point so no bigee. Just curious about teasing other members like the Ray or Fong stuff (as long as its not too graphic) or the waye sumone spels. Is that stuff gonna be considered "harassment"?
OOOOOOOOOO thats a point for you mister, you dodged the swear filter. oh and thats harassment too...another point. mods please take care of this...i dont know if i want to be here if people are swearing at me and harassing me
That's stuff definately needs to be tone down a bit...whether it is me, Fong, or Nate...everything is always fun and games...I don't take anything seriously to heart and I hope no else does either. But we do have to keep this site cleaner in terms of the words and phrases we all use, due to the fact that new members might think it is a free for all...MNsubaru should be a rated "G" site. Occasionally a "PG-13" might come along just like "Shrek".
When it gets to the point where it starts to feel like a harassment or misconduct, that's where the line is drawn...
WOW. For a forum that has less than a 1000 members, this is pretty crazy. I guess I didn't realise there was problem. My overall understanding is car guys(or girls) swear, drink beer, like to skeet race, and just live the life, which is anything but G rated. There are words that get filtered here that can be said on national television. WHAT??? MNSC does not even have a swear filter. Are we such a bunch of prudes that we need all this gadgetry to make things more "family friendly?" Since so many 6 y/olds browse this forum, I suppose its neccessary. I come from other forums that have been around much longer and have many more members than this place. Yet these issues are not a problem. Plus they are stricly Subaru. Maybe it is because of the new-gen cars and all the bandwagoners that have hopped on, I dunno. I may have only been here for about a year, but I've been on other sites since 2000. These issues that are spoken of have not been such a major problem that strictly defined rules such as these have ever been neccessary. Points? Seriously... It saddens me when the people here that really do stuff with these cars cannot be what they are at heart, meaning car guys. They get dirty and say, "goddamn, that ****en bolt was a pain in my ass but we put some muscle to that bitch and got the **** done."
You know what Justin.... we are going to have enough to figure out and do without this kind of stuff. If you or other want to report a post than use the report post button on the left side of the post. As for the rules. Not all that much has really changed. Most of these rules were already being used and most people followed them already anyway. This is us putting them in writing so that there is no argument about people not knowing what the rules are. We have already been hearing from some people that they have been offended by some of the posting that happens here and we have not been doing this that long. There is no way to please everyone. We are just trying to keep it work place safe and not too offensive to most people. As for talking about illegal activities, we are trying to keep attention off this club and its members. Seems like most people would be grateful to not have the authorities looking at them all the time. I am sure that most of the car club boards are read by the authorities, especially after some of the news pieces we saw last fall.
I agree with all of this. My (personal) take is that drag racing in general is lame, sanctioned or otherwise. Just not my flavor. But I really like swearing. A lot. I work in a machine shop day in, day out, and all my co-workers are old time crumudginny smartasses. You should see some the expletives dropped there on the daily... HILARIOUS! But I generally don't like censoring. But I'm also one of those really blunt, lacking in tact kind of guys that has the ability regularly offend people too. But like I said earlier, I'm pretty neutral on this since everyone seems to be fairly reasonable. It is generally a good idea to have some formality to the rules. Let's just see how it all pans out and is executed. Edit: I just thought of something. I remember posting on some other forums years ago that had a ranking system. You could essentially vote on a member based on... well, anything. So if anyone on here thought I was jerk, they could give me 1 star, and if a bunch of other people thought I was a rockstar, they could give 5 stars. Maybe you could use that in conjunction with the point system somehow? Just a thought that came to mind. That way there would be a bit of a buffer in the subjectiveness in the interpretation of the infringements on the rules. Although, I know I saw in there that you guys wanted to be even-handed about points distribution (not taking into account how long someones been a member, etc.). I could see how that could become a popularity contest.
Sorry that did not get answered. Yes, I believe you get a PM from the system stating what and how many. I have started testing some of this stuff this morning but have not heard back from anyone yet. Should I send you a warning and we can see?
Bummpy, you also have to remember that not everyone works in that kind of place. When I was a mod, I did have people ask me about getting words censored because their firewall at work would pick it up and block our site. It has even happened at my work. I was locked out of here because of what my IT guy though was bad stuff. Like Mlgez stated, these are basically the rules that have been in place since THIS site started (after the split). They are spelled out better now to help get rid of the grey area's. Again, we have alot of new people join the group, and it would be nice to show them that we are not just a group of people bashing each other. It is all common sense things. You raced the guy at rock falls, not on the street. Russ
It's still ok to joke around with friends on here, as long as it's obvious, even to people who don't know that you're friends. There are some times when if you don't know the connection between the two members that the mock harassment just looks like real harassment. That can be intimidating to newer members. That's part of the reasoning for that rule.
So we can't swear? Even if the filter is in place and working?!?! whats the point then I'm sorry but if you can turn to FOX and hear **** and b***h....I think we should have the right to swear on here - Now, maybe calling someone a b***h is over the line, I agree, but like in the above post "Damn that bolt was a b***h to get off......" Should have no affect on anyone. Ahhh the joys of censorship
as opposed to waiting till it gets as big as NaSIOc then trying to put rules in place.. GOOD LUCK... I say set the standard high right out the gate... then it is common knowledge and the standard is great... the only reason it seems NAZI like is because usually people dont have high standards to go by then when it is applied its like a noose... kinda like raising a child... ie give a 2 yr old a gun cause you have no STANDARDS etc and see what happens.... yay for me... I think I got a test point... ha ha ha or was it real.. ha ha knowing me I deserved it...
it did last night... only its hard to search this site for the 1 instance he actually spelled correctly....
Sorry, this board will never be as big as that board so using them as an example makes no sense. Rules are great (to a certain point) but too many can hurt the cause more then it helps. There's a point where you start imposing too many limits on what people can say and do and they either refrain from posting or go elsewhere. That was my only point.
Members don't realize these rules were already in place to begin with. We are just now reminding and enforcing them to members. For the 1.5 yrs I've been here (not long) I've seen a lot of things blown out of propotion and when mods get involved, the damage has already been done. And a lot of times no one gets any infraction over it and it repeats itself over and over again...
^ man...u are really testing the mods/admins with that post and going around the filters with some of your other post...
Everyone Listen...i've Already Been Warned!!! i'm not jokin at all here. just letting you know to be aware!!!!!! i guess we are getting overly strict now :emo: i kid i kid
Please...feel free to dig up AWDaddicts from the grave and start your post whoring leadership/management over there.
