Hey guys names Tou. I drive a 02 PSM Bugeye and will be moving to Minnesota's Twin Cities area in January so just trying to get a heads up on the local Subie scene. :)

Welcome to the club. If you have never driven on snow or ice you may want to pickup a set of snow tires. It will make your life a lot easier.

Most winter tires will handle better than any all season. But if you want to go best, IMO Blizzaks can't be beat.

BTW, what part of California you coming from? I'm guessing Sacramento?

I lived In Hermosa Beach for quite a while. Had a few friends up in SAC I'd go skating with sometimes.

Coming from SoCal to the Midwest has been an insane change, but it's rad here. Good people, clean living, clean environment. Oh, and its cold as ****. But you'll get used to it.

Welcome aboard. Like many have said already MN can be cold as ****. I have lived here my whole life and it has had its ups and downs weather wise. However, its one of the few states that has a good 4 four seasons in a year. I cant wait to go play in the snow with my subie this year.

Welcome! I second the blizzaks. They're not required if you have good all-seasons, but I really like traction.

I have run the General Artimax and Hancook IPikes. I was happy with both winter setups. Either way, if you are not used to driving on snow and ice and want to keep your car in good shape I would pick something up. Your options get small quickly if you wait till mid-winter. I would suggest picking something up in Nov - Dec. Once the snow flys the options start to shrink (sell out).

All-Seasons are crap under 40* (which is Dec - March) - so don't get sold on crap tires.

Pick up a cheap set of rims because Minnesota Springs EAT RIMS! (potholes)

Also think about your ground clearance.

Welcome. Good luck with the relocation. Just be careful driving on snow, you'll learn. Winter tires are pretty much a must. Just be cautious, stopping distance will be very much longer and keep an eye on traffic around you because all the hazards are relevant to them too. Ive avoided a few accidents just by seeing them coming and got out of the way. Winter beaters are an option, but come on we drive subaru's.

Some will not agree, that's fine but All Seasons are fine for winter. My whole family has driven nothing but all seasons for many years, since the 80s and last year I tried winter tires after reading all the hype online and on here and I'm not sold on it.
Just get a great all season tire like Continental DWS and you'll do just fine.
Just don't do anything crazy. Its Winter, so drive/start slow, brake early and leave a lot of space between you and the car in front of you and you'll survive winter
If you tailgate and/or drive reckless or like to win when the light turns green, brake late then yeah, a winter tire may help but you shouldn't do/care about that anyways.
All seasons are good enough and has been for me and my whole family for 25+ years with no accidents in the winter.
I say it's not necessary. Good to have? Yes, Necessary? No
All seasons will do just fine
