Hello all. I picked up a Saab 9-2x Aero about 6 months ago. It's been a blast to own and drive... Just wish it would snow more . For $5,000 I think I got a heck of a deal on the car as it was a one owner vehicle with all maintenance records, bone stock, immaculate interior, however, it has high miles...180k ...which worries me. I figured though that even if I had to put a new motor in it I'd still be getting a WRX cheaper than buying a "real" WRX. Plus most the ones that would fall into my budget would probably be molested and beat on. This brings me to my question. Has anyone heard of this? https://rmn.craigslist.org/pts/4887423408.html It's a CL ad for someone that remanufactures long blocks, but with out a legit business name attached I'm a little apprehensive. There's nothing currently wrong with my motor...I'm just planning ahead. Still haven't gotten a compression test to see the overall health of it, so maybe all is not well...we'll see. Anyhow... Here's my baby.
Welcome to the short bus! Someone here can help you with your motor questions and compression testing. Lots of good knowledge.
Welcome! Pretty sure you were behind me some night last week on 7th street NW, around 5pm-ish. Wondered if you were a member here or not. Car looks nice, very clean for that many miles.
With that kind of miles, that's pretty much right in line with WRX pricing. That's not a bad thing, though. The Saabarus usually demand more of a premium. What year is your Saab? If it's an 05, you're probably good for another 75K as long as you take care of maintaining it. If it's an 06 though... ehhh... Either way, welcome to the nuthouse. P.S. I'm not too sure about that CL ad. There's plenty of engine builders with good reputations and track records on these forums you can get assistance from when the time comes to have a replacement built.
So mine's a 06, what were wrong about the 2.5 engines in the 06? I am curious I must prevent my engine from failing lol
Subaru 2.5s (N/A and turbo) have a shaky history, but then again they put them into EVERYTHING. Just keep up on your maintenance and avoid modifying the powertrain too much and you'll be fine.
Someone should try to organize a SE MN meet in the summer since that Redline group shut down...I went to a couple of their shows and it had a pretty good turnout along with some awesome prizes from sponsors.
Welcome, and very nice pickup on the Saabaru. Like, Blackozone said, I wouldn't worry to much about the mileage as long as maintenance is kept up, at least not at this time. We have done meets before in the past, we actually used to do quite a few somewhat regularly, but they were "meets" Not car shows. The likely hood that there is something that is going to be set up with sponsors and prizes are pretty slim. It was nice to grab food and a drink or 2 at Binks on the lake though on a Saturday or Sunday afternoon though.
