i am buying a house and it has a brand new 2 car garage it does not have electricity run to it yet so i will have to do that i plan on running some 220 outlets in there for compressor and stuff just looking for input for improvements before i begin maybe something you wish you did im not going crazy ill insulate and either sheet rock or another sheet good some sort of lights not sure yet what knowledge can you impart on me
The things that you'll want after spending time out there working on projects... 1)Lighting(overhead and task lighting) 2)Heat 3)Storage(overhead and easy to access for tools/fluids) 4)Lighting, lighting, lighting! I would recommend using wood sheeting/plywood instead of drywall. More moisture resistant and when you hang "light items ie:handtools, extension cords, hoses, etc." you can screw directly into it without worrying about hitting studs.(it may cost a little bit more in the end) Paint a bright color on ceiling and walls, like white, because lighting, lighting, lighting! Lol. Congrats on the house and new man cave!!
+1 on lights I love my hanging natural gas heater, must have. 45k BTUs heats up my 30x32 space to ~55 in about 30-45 minutes even on the cold days. Although, in a perfect world... I'd have in-floor heating... Make sure you can supply your garage with enough power to do what you want. That could be limited to the main service you have coming into the house. Luckily, I have 200 amps coming to the house so I can easily allocate 50 amps to the garage on its own sub-panel. Organization, and more of it. I run out of places to put **** all the time! Epoxy the floor for super easy cleanup. Get the best insulation you can afford. Wall material is personal preference. Some want drywall, some want plywood, some want pegboard. Hell, some want them all! Put an outlet about every 6-8 feet. It makes all the difference not having to run extensions cords all over the place. Same with air, run air to all 3 sides if you can.
Like has already been said can't have enough outlets or lighting. Also a air house reel or hard airline with ports running around the garage.
Yup, do the flooring, lighting, and outlets now. Run cable out there too. Wish i would have done wall mounted uv lights about 3-4' off the ground. For the compressor, a vented box will cut down on noise and ceiling mounted reel is nice. Going to add some of these this year: http://www.amazon.com/Best-Choice-Products®-Shower-Folding/dp/B001W26NEC
Ceiling outlets above each bay would be a plus too! And +11-tybillion on the epoxy floor! Easy clean up and little to no staining!
Costco had some really good prices on LED shop lights. It might be worth the extra money for those. http://slickdeals.net/f/7613088-fei...tent=u40555&utm_campaign=tu-9999#post73801470
In addition to the 220V outlet(s), run a few 120V 20A outlets. Sometimes you need those 120V 20A outlets too...
looking at the rustoleum http://www.homedepot.com/p/Rust-Ole...oxy-Garage-Floor-Coating-Kit-251870/100671422
Behr makes a nice kit too. I believe that Home Depot carries it also. Just used it in a basement that i was working on a few weeks ago. They have more colors than just grey.
