Hello. My name is Kevin. I purchased my first Subaru almost 3 months ago and have heard from a few people that I should join up here. Thus, here I am. Stepped into a lightly used BRZ Limited with 24,000 miles and have loved almost every minute of it so far. Heres what it was looking like soon after purchase next to my previous love, the rsx-s. And here it is a couple months later staged up for time trials at Proving Grounds last weekend. I was kinda planning on boosting this and hopefully making a conservative turbo 350~ for a fun car but after hitting the road course I think Ill be building for that specifically. Anyways, I hope to kinda get in on the Subaru fun around here and see what comes of it.
Welcome Kevin! Sweet BRZ, love the white! How was it taking it out for the first time at BIR? Also, what kind of fuel economy does it get on the daily driver tip? -Josh
Thanks Josh! BIR was great. It was actually my first time out on the road course there and it was a blast. I had a bit of an interesting fourth lap when I tried to stay wot around turn... 3?... ended up spinning out at somewhere around 100. Moral of that story is either lift before the turn or don't lift at all. The car and myself are fine. Just a little wiser. But all in all it was a great time and a great learning experience. The fuel economy has been pretty good so far. I was getting around 300+ to a tank on 93 and now that I'm running e85 I'm still getting around 275-300 per tank. I try not to let it run too empty now that I'm e85 so I can't be sure how much I'm getting to a tank anymore.
Welcome. There are 3 regular FT guys here if you need or want any input. Come out for the Tuesday meet and meets us in person.
#Whitecarsmatter Thanks folks! So far I'm just running e85 with all the header-back bolt ons and a drop in filter. Im tuned on the open flash tablet using an off the shelf e85 "stage 2" map that I personally think could use some work. Unfortunately, no one around here(to my knowledge) tunes with OFT but I was hoping to start making my own little tweaks when I have the time to learn a bit. I used to tweak and edit my K-Pro tunes when I had the RSX-S so Im not terribly intimidated by the concept. Other than that Im running Fortune Auto 500 coilovers with a fairly conservative spring rate. Got some 17x9 RPF1's as well. Theres also a few cosmetic mods that came on the car. Clear side markers and a shorty Perrin antenna. I believe thats all for now. No real future plans for big mods. Braided brake lines, cryo rotors.... ummmm do something with the ugly silver interior trim...... that should be it for a while.
Go check out FT86 Speed Factory. That's where I got most of my stuff. They also did/are doing my tune. http://www.ft86speedfactory.com
So far Oakos has given me the best deals. I got my suspension, wheels, grimmspeed plate relocator (yes they gave me a better price than grimmspeed even with the 20% local discount considered lol), and K&N filter from them so far. The Q300 I believe came from circuit motorsports, the CNT UEL from Ebay (haaa) and my mid/over pipe came used from a ft86 guy. Im terribly frugal(cheeeeaaaappp) when it comes to buying big stuff. Are they doing a remote tune? Ive never looked into remote tunes. Feels uncomfortable for whatever reason haha. I know a lot of people do it though.
Yup, remote tune. Going well. my next one should be last. Nothing but good experiences with them, and their tuner is very spot on. Only other tuner in MN that will touch these cars is Full Blown (Fail Blown) and they scare me.
Yeah ask Matt about that one lawl. Jordan said he'd try it on OFT if I bring in everything necessary but he would prefer to tune them on BRZedit. He did the initial tuning for MAP when they made their turbo kits for the 86's. I havent gotten into it really. I just need to adjust throttle mapping.
I suppose that is acceptable because Shiv the douche already got the first owner's money. That dude is terrible and stole IP from Cobb which made Cobb abandon the BMW market and set back development years and years. Also, his electric superchargers are complete BS.
Mines tuned with a ecutek cable and the delicious e85 modual. Other then some cold start issues on e85 when its cooler out its been great.
Yeah Im actually starting to experience that too. I was surprised how "cold" it had to be to see that issue.
Yea next time I run e85 ill b doing a log so they can adjust my cold start fuel enritchment becUse it is not enough right now.
