Just got my first Subaru, and so far am loving it. After a tired out anemic VW jetta my new (used) 08 WRX feels like a rocket ship.

    thanks for the welcomes,

Scooby, I wish I could but I can't afford a motorcycle I just bought a car. Figured it would be warmer in the winter.

If you think that thing is a beast out-of-box, find yourself a used 09 wrx to test drive. I don't think you'll regret it :)

Get used to the power that has, then get a Cat-back and get re-tuned. Then pick up a downpipe and get tuned again. You really won't regret that. haha

Springs alone help the 2008 WRXs a LOT.

    Welcome, also.

    LOL, Yeah,

Since I bought a 4yr warrenty with the car I probably won't do any big power adders, I have been thinking about sway bars however. Get a little more weight transfer in the rear help reduce the push even more.

Got to put the car on the long course at BIR for a lap or two while working corners for the CRA... Hit 125 (indicated) on the front straight before I ran out of courage going into T1, that and I knew i had to drive the car home.

One question i've been trying to find an answer to, how do stock motors handle boost controlers are they worth it at all? ( I know I said no power adders, doesn't mean I haven't thought about it. )

A boost controller is a no-no on a WRX. The stock ECU does a phenomenal job of handling boost, all you need is a tune to realize additional boost gains. Coupling this with some exhaust mods yields even better results.

Good to know. I was considering a boost gauge (mostly cause i'm curious) and figured if it could handle it the controler would be an easy mild power boost. Car came with the SPT exhaust tips at least, not sure if the rest of the system is on the car or not. I'm betting not because everything forward of the split for the dual mufflers is rusty while the mufflers are not.

A boost gauge is certainly a good idea -- all FI cars should have one. Would suggest a decent electronic gauge, there are a number of options out there.

Out of curiosity what kind of power boost would the down pipe and exhaust bring?

are you suggesting lowering springs or just different rates, or perhaps progressive rate springs?

    Read this: http://www.3gwrx.com/forum/index.php?topic=7727.0

The only part in there that needs correcting is that you should not get an accessport, instead get an opensource tune from one our friendly tuners, its far cheaper and better.

Your '08 is going to be similar to my '06. Read this thread. About the only difference is that the BCS is much better on the newer cars, so a 3-port is not quite as important at stage 2.
