im thinking sti wing, fmic, exhaust, and cobb i used cobb on my rx8 and i liked it so ill go with them again then eventually lower it
Check out the open source solution. OpenECU. Spend the money on something that actually increases performance. Welcome!
just some advice take it how you want, but Open ECU custom tune is gonna cost less then a cobb AP and will get you better gains IMHO but congrats on the new car! hope to see you out at some meets!
Brian Shorten: Cobb AP maps are "off the shelf" maps, meaning instead of being tailored to your car, they are a "safe" map that will work on a number of cars with similar mods. You won't be able to develop as much power, as Cobb has to adjust timing and fuel in the interests of not getting sued because their map contributed to a motor failure. An open source or dyno tune will be tailored to your car and your mods, and you can decide how close you want to run to the ragged edge of the power vs. reliability envelope. And with the money you spend on an AP and then getting it protuned to what you want, you could have several OS tunes. for the price of a used AP($350) i got an dowpipe an openscource toon from NUKE. NUkE's stage2 toon on my car(o5lgt wagon) is a faster ,smoother toon than my buddy how has an 05STI cobbAP stage2.

Yeah, I would wait till you upgrade the turbo to get an FMIC. Smaller turbos like the TD04 that come stock on the WRX are going to be running out of breath already in higher RPMs on the 2.0L and the 2.5L, which is why you see alot of stock turbo tunes taper off at higher RPMS, the engine is demanding more input air volume than the turbo can produce in the higher RPM range. By adding tons of FMIC piping, you are adding to the amount of volume that the turbo has to pressurize to reach efficient pressures. Think of your engine's intake cycle like a balloon. When the piston is on the downstroke on the intake cycle, it has to draw in air to fill the cylinder. The turbo is there to aid in filling and, as it turns out, pressurize that air above atmospheric pressure. In a topmount configuration, the turbo has to pressurize the cylinder, and the intercooler core, and any piping in between the turbo outlet and the cylinder. By adding all that piping to the system, you are creating a much larger amount of volume that needs to be pressurized. What the longer piping does is creates a lag time to efficient pressure. With larger turbos, that lag time isn't as much of an issue due to the larger CFM being moved by the turbo, the system fills faster and the time to fill is shorter. Cliff's Notes: Wait for the FMIC till you are running something larger. I think a nice, larger topmount will suit you, even up in the 20G turbo territory...it'll definitely give you that speedy, torquey, insta-spool that the TD04 on the topmount is good for. Beyond the 20G you might want to start thinking about an FMIC. I'd get your goals sorted before you start making those decisions. It's best to make a goal, and then build your system around that. Read around the FAQs and Newbie info section of the site, it has lots of information. But your first order of business before modding should be to decide what it is that you want your car to accomplish for you, then build the car to suit those needs.
