Hi, I am new here. I live in Coon Rapids, but will be moving soon. I am hoping to learn more about these cars as I am shopping for one at the moment. I'm a little worried about some of the "premature" failures I hear about on the turbo 2.5 engines.

    Cheers!

Also, I forgot to ask: is anyone going to Road America to watch IMSA this weekend? I'll be in the C360R paddock if you want to say hi.

Welcome! I agree with fuzz. Get stock if you can. Then you know everything that's been done to the car. Otherwise visit the For Sale thread here and buy a members car! The world is your oyster!

Not sure who has the most hardcore n/a subaru, but my 06 saabaru 2.5i was bone stock power-wise, but I had lowering springs, adjustable struts, and it was a blast to drive.

And btw, not all turbo subaru's are terrible. The 2.0L turbo is fairly bomb proof. It seems as though the 08+ STI's are really the problem children (for cracked ringlands), but that is still a broad generalization.

Proper maintenance + a proper tune with reasonable mods(or even better, stock), and you'll be in good shape...or better than most people.

Ehhh EJ205/7 had bearing issues...I wouldnt say they are any more bomb proof than the EJ25, just different problems.
My buddy recently bought a low mile 2005 wrx with the EJ205 and like 3 weeks later he spun a bearing and needed a whole new motor...
