ok my problem is that i have mnsubaru as my home page. so when even someone logs on to the internet and goes to a different sight i loose all the new posts. and by the time i get to them there will be only 3 new posts or what ever. or the little link button will come up for whats new in the last 24hours if there are no new posts and you have that stupid timer that screws with you. well my question is can you put that link on the bottom of the page so when you click new post and you only get 3 that pop up that date back to 45min ago, you can click that 24 hour link and get all of what you missed out on? that way your not going threw every thread looking for what was talked about that day?
You want a link on the page all the time for "view posts over the last 24 hours" ? as far as I know, that only shows up when the forum thinks you've read everything new. It may not be hard to incorporate this, but right now Russ has decided to take a break from coding stuff for the site, so it will have to wait a bit.
yeah that is what i want. i just wrote a long pm first before checking new posts and by the time i looked after swapping to a other form real quick it was at 3 with the last post being from right when i logged on. nothing older. was just a thought that i think would be sweet for me at least.
I really wish I had admin privileges so I could change this for you. Since Russ has taken a step back for a bit (the maintenance of this forum is really tiring) .. I will run it past one of the other admins and see if they have a chance to do it. It won't happen right away, so please be patient.
It is possible with vBulletin to set things up so that posts aren't marked "read" unless you actually read them (or mark them that way). I personally prefer that as it means if I go to a site, then have to stop and do something else, I don't miss anything when I come back later. But it's not a big deal to me if I miss a port ore two here, so I'm not pushing for a change. Not sure if it's a built-in setting or an add-on, but I've seen other forums (i.e. http://www.specialstage.com/forums )
Well, currently the posts are run off of cookies. So every time you log in, your cookie gets updated and if you stay logged in for a long time without moving around in the forums, your cookie gets updated after 15 min. So when you sit static on a single page, it will automatically update. I could change it over to updating per post, but that becomes VERY server intensive. Later on this afternoon, I will look into seeing if I can change the cookie renew time. Russ
