Saw these, I'm intrigued. I don't know if these are going to actually go into production. But I definitely like the concept.
Wrong answer. You want to make sure people are paying attention at stoplights? Get rid of the yellow light. Most douchenozzlery I witness at intersections is predicated on said douchenozzle assuming that if their light is yellow, that means nobody else can go and it's safe to floor it. If they could make no such assumption, they will think twice. Take Drachten's traffic experiment as case-in-point. They removed most traffic controls in their town. If you drive like a douche, you're going to wreck your car. You can't count on everyone else being nice, orderly, predictable little lemmings while you go hooning around rush hour traffic. The biggest complaint among the residents interviewed on a news story I watched about it wasa, "I don't like it. You ALWAYS have to pay attention now." Durrrr...
You may be right Surly, I don't see that happen often near me. Usually people just run the red lights. Because shoving McDonalds in your mouth while running red lights is patriotic....
I bet they wouldn't if they knew there was ZERO delay between their light turning red and cross traffic turning green. Actually just that would be fine. Just kill the delay between your light turning red and cross traffic turning green. Yellow no longer means "hurry up and get in to the intersection, it's turning red", now it means "dude you're f'd, hurry up and get out of the intersection".
Seriously. Minnesotans already have a hard enough time understanding and following basic traffic signs and rules. ****ing merging... dont get me started on that ****.
other countries just have the orange light flash a couple of times before it changes, then the red does before going green...
Have u seen how people handle round abouts? I've seen people drive straight throughout them over the middle, among several other idiotic things.
Yup. There's nothing wrong with them in principle, stop lights don't work if people have no clue how they're supposed to use them either. In practice, I've come to fear them if there is any other traffic at all. Particularly if I have to make a left turn. No bueno.
Yes to roundabouts, also not to mention its actually illegal to enter an intersection when the light turns yellow. The more people know that the less likely theyll try to gas it to get through a light. But the best things ever are those crosswalk countdown timers, just saying.
So... you don't think people know what a yellow light is supposed to mean? I expect the vast majority of us were taught what a yellow light means in driver's ed. It doesn't change behavior. People causing the issues are not terribly concerned with what's legal. They're concerned with what they can get away with. A tangible threat of destroying your car is a potent motivator to tone down the douchebaggery regardless of whether a ticket follows. Why don't people blow red lights? Blowing a yellow is the same "disobey semaphore" ticket as blowing a red...
Especially if the roundabout is new, its winter and there's a fresh layer of snow... Bad things for people not paying attention, haha.
4 way stops are my biggest irritation right now. I wish they would put lights in at every single intersection in this town because people seem to be able to understand those better -- cause you know, little arrow that is pointing left and green means GO. We need the color, apparently. Something needs to change, I'm tire of seeing people sitting at a stop sign when it's their turn to go, staring at me with their mouths open, and then deciding to go right when I say **** IT and start myself.
Just horrible, especially if you're alone in an AWD vehicle and mysteriously lose traction, and are forced to go opposite lock for an extended period of time.
