I'm picking out new tires for my car and am wondering if the azenies rt615's in 245/40/17 are going to fit at all. Obviously the fenders will get rolled, but will they fit and not rub too bad?

Going on a 17x8 rim btw.

245/40-17 is the perfered size for the wide street tire in that width.
i run 245/45-17 myself, and on my bone stock WRX i rubbed in the rear and had plenty of clearance in the front. the only thing is the spedo is off by 2.5mph @ 60.

i'd rather go 40 series, but the tires i want just aren't made in that size. :(

I need new tires as well, i was cleaning up my rotas the other night in the garage and found a nice big screw and piece of metal in one of my tires. the rim is 18x7.5 would you guys recommend a 235 width tire?

235/245 will both work no problem. 245 might rub a little in the rear unless you have more camber back there.

I'd probably say go with the Falken Azenis St115 in 235/40/18. They're $106 each
but if you really wanna have fun driving, move up to the Falken Azenis Rt615. There $141 a peice, but they stick like glue on tissue paper. really really well.

Both prices are quoted off of edgeracing.com, but check your local sears, as they often have better pricing than any of the online sites for falkens.

    Steve,
They'll fit, but Falken doesnt offer a 245/40-17 in the RT-615. Trust me.
i've sent them countless e-mails on the subject.

The closest options are 235/40-17 and 245/45-17.
The 235 being a bit narrower and shortens gearing means you'll have better pull out of the corners, and be higher in the RPM range.

The 245 on the other hand allows you more speed in lower gears and has 10mm more witdth to grab with.

FWIW, the pro autocrossers have been using the 235 size. i'm going with the 245 as this is minnesota, i drive on these wheels and tires all summer long, and pot holes are abundant. not to mention the SLIGHTLY better fuel mileage at crusing speed.

The other option is the Hankooks. they're being argued as the new falken beater, as their cheap, almost as grippy, and offer a 245/40-17. (due out april/may)

Thanks. How come the only vendor that lists the rt615s in 235/40/17 is edgeracing?

Falkens website sucks... what's the hankook you are talking about?

Because it hasn't been released yet. it's not due out for another month or so. edgeracing's just taking pre orders and stuf. if they can pre-sell a good amount of those, they can get a bigger allotment. Vulcan tires is the best place to check on the dates of falken's tire release, but not exactly the best place to buy....

The Hankooks i'm talking about are these:
    http://www.hankooktireusa.com/products_view_info.asp?Item_ID=63&CatID=5
    The Hankook Ventus R-S2 z212.
lotta argument, as their a really fast tire, that comes in more available sizes then the 615s. they basically stole the tread pattern from Yokohama off their new Advan Neova AD07s. <--- a DAMN fine tire at $200 a peice.
The kooks are available through edge racing aswell... the 245/40/17s should be available my now.

That, i can't really help you with.
i've been to so many places to have tires mounted/balanced, and i've never really had a problem with any of them.

I would suggest at least finding a place that has a road force machine, and the capability to mount the tough tires without scratching the wheels. Most Discount tires are a good bet, but expect to pay around $70 for just mount/balance... if not more with your 18"s @ discount at least...

Try BP Subaru... i think they have a roadforce balancer, and i think brian will do it on the side....

    Just call around...

Yeah, Same price as edgeracing. I like what they do for the car community up here so I'd rather have them get the business then some internet company I just heard of.

You can either call me and place your order. Then I can have you pick the tires up in Burnsville.... Or you can go into the store and buy them in Burnsville. Either way. If you order them from Me(tintmasters) here in Fargo. We won't have to charge you sales tax. But if you buy them in the store you will. Just depends on how you feel about that. Some like to pay the tax to support the state....... some don't. Either way. Our normal price is not what Edgeracing sells for. They are about 5% or less over the cost on the tires. They are trying to make a better name for themselves by selling at lower prices than most small shop's cost. but we always try to be competitive with the internet as much as we can. Let me know.

    thanks

ok...I have some tarmacII 17x7.5's. Looking at the Hankooks Ventus R-S2 z212's. What size would you guys recommend for an 02 wagon? First time buying anything other than stock size ;)

well... lets not talk about edgeracing like its some cardboard box on a street corner someone is selling tires out of.

They have been selling tires mainly to the grassroots motorsports community for a while, they have had really consistently low prices and good service. Nothing to complain about there, and if you don't like them, a lot of places price match. They do big volume in these specific types of tires so they can offer good deals.

    225. its the widest you can put on your wagon with the stock springs. Wider will have a chance of rubbing. It also will fit very well on a 7.5 inch wheel.

Due to the car being a wagon, you didn't get the flared fenders front and back like the sedan did, and your maximum SAFE tire is going to be 225/45-17
235s CAN fit, but you'll be rolling the fenders and adjusting the camber. plus you have to make sure your running the correct wheels.

Now that you have these Shane how about a review. As you know I am very much in the market for tires. Not sure that I want to go through the trouble of rolling the fenders for the 245/45/17 RT-615. Was thinking the 245/40/17 would save me that hassle. How do you think the two tires compair to each other and then compaired to the RE070.....

^ you have an '05 STi? A 245/45 will fit just fine without rolling. The 245/40 will just make the already-short second gear even shorter, not good when you are all over the rev limiter on an autox course.

On the '06 and above, it's 215/45/17. Previous years, it's 205/55/16. According to Nasioc, I should be able to get away with 225/45 without rolling. Bullwinkle has already proven with 245's that there needs to be fender rolling done.

The STi has more room than the WRX. to give you an idea what is possible, my autox setup is 275/40/17 in front and 245/45/17 in the rear. The 275s could just as easily go in back, that just happened to be what I got a deal on. That is on a stock-height suspension. (Ohlins struts w/stock springs.)

275.... damn. Yea I am sticking with my 17x8 for now. After looking at the calc the 245/40 does not make sense. The 245/45 does. Happy to hear I won't have to roll the fenders.

Yeah, I took a closer look at my tires today. They will be fine with a minor roll up of the inside fender lip, and it looks like only the rears will need it.

Sky, if you want to stay away from the rolling, I would recommend 235 or 225/45's. Those'll fit fine. Make sure the wheel offset works as well. If you're going with 17x8's they should be between +43 and +47.
