What's up?! I just picked up a 1977 DL Wagon. 1.6L with FWD/4WD. It definitely needs some TLC, but at least it's running. Does anyone know of a good shop I could take this to? I'm not looking for a performance tune or anything, preferably some old mechanic who has maybe seen something like this before. Anyways, here she is! https://www.dropbox.com/s/kzxah7vlh4imjio/2014-09-21 12.49.47.jpg
What a cool car! That looks like it would be a fun project vehicle, welcome from a fairly new guy myself!
I'm in south mpls. near Augsburg. I got the car a few weeks ago. It's only had a few owners (original + 2 in the last 6 years or so). Odometer reads 38xxx, but that could mean 138,00, or 238,000. I'm hoping it's only 138. From the frantic research I've done since purchasing, I found that this car is still popular in Colorado and Oregon because it's a tough little mountain goat of a car. My hope is to get it through winter and drive it in what it was made for. Unfortunately, the suspension has been lowered, so lifting it back to stock is high priority before snow hits. It's got (new) lowered springs in front, so I'll have to replace those, and torsion bar in the back. I'm not sure if that's something I should dive into myself, or just have a mechanic do. I'm learning as I go here, and I'm not afraid to get dirty. Electrical is a little funky. Most of the accessory circuit blows its 30A fuse about 15 seconds after putting the key in and turning it to ACC. All essentials work. I just need to find where it's shorting and hopefully get the fan going.. and windshield wipers would be nice too. Windshield is cracked pretty bad. Hoping I get pulled over by a cop who's into cars, might be able to talk myself out of that ticket. In the meantime I've got a guy who is trying to find a replacement. Thanks for the compliments!
I spotted you today parked off of Uni by 280! Behind the black turd! I went to snap the pic and a car rolled past both times! Lol
Honestly I think it looks good lowered. I just bought a lowered legacy and will probably leave it. But you're right that it'll be a little tougher in winter
My subie is stock height and i noticed last winter that the snow tires really fling snow up into the wheel wells. So much that my tires would would eventually rub on the mass of snow and ice up there. It was hard enough to get it out as it sits now, can't imagine doing the same with it lowered, even an inch. I spent 30 min at a diy car wash spraying the massive chunks out. Do yourself a favor and raise her up.
Sweet car! Welcome to the forums. check out car-part.com for windshields. It looks like they have a bunch on there...
