So, I recently installed the turbo, injectors, pump, big tmic...etc, etc...

    However, on cold start-up I have a rattle I just can't figure out:eek:

The noise is coming from the downpipe area and only lasts for maybe 30 seconds. I can really hear it if I start the car and stick my head under the car just behind the passenger side wheel. The noise is a very light, almost high pitched rattling.

DP- I checked for leaks, nothing

Up-pipe- checked the best i could for leaks, nothing that I could tell.

turbo- No abnormal noises, no leaks of coolant or oil. Better not be the turbo. I primed that damn thing at least 7 times before start-up and have yet to run any significant boost.

    any thoughts?

I suppose I'll have to get the car back up on the ramps and look, but it's pain since I have to let the motor totally cool down overnight. otherwise on warm start-ups there no noise!

Does your dp mount to the little brackett (right where the midpipe would be on the stock exhaust) or is just hanging there next to it? 02 sensor come loose somehow?

No, it's on the bracket and the bolt is tight. I'll check the O2 sensor though....

    is this typical?

I didn't want to mess with the preload until tuned....but i suppose one turn won't do any harm.

I guess I've never seen that message.

So, when you adjusted the preload did the noise go away?

It should in your case. What turbo do you have? My turbo was a prototype so the design on the arm was alittle off to the point where Matt had to cut part of it off :eek3:

right on, give the arm a few turns and see if that cures the problem.

Hmmm... I went down to the garage at work and the pipes were cold (assuming engine was cold enough to replicate the problem) so I tightened the actuator arm by one turn. Started the car, no noise....Hope that was the problem:hsugh:
