My car has to be in perfect running order on the 19th (ONE WEEK FROM SATURDAY) as my brother needs to take it to a race out in Colorado again. So, my turbo has stopped (literally seized up) now 3x and is definitely leaking a lot of oil (i'm convinced the oil seal is blown at the very least). I'm thinking my best solution due to the time constraint is just to pick up a new turbo, the gm boost control stuff i've been planning, and install both sometime before next friday. I have a friday appointment to get it dyno tuned up at db. This will ensure that the car is driveable/reliable for my brother and give me a chance to get a quicker spooling turbo (i don't need a vf22 on a car in which i have no intension of tuning for more than 300 hp at the wheels). What do you guys think? Would you give the turbo that's on the car another shot? Any ideas what is up with it? It's literally just not spinning/stuck which has now happened 3x (the first time it resolved itself, the 2nd it resolved it when i took it apart and messed with it, the 3rd is now). Also, after the 2nd time i noticed very little play in the shaft of the turbo- but WAY too much oil in the intercooler. what route would you take to getting parts that will work on the car by next friday? can i send the vf22 out to get rebuilt and then sell? can i rebuild it myself and then sell? thanks in advance for any help etc. if no one has any great ideas i'm just going to go ahead and order a new turbo- getting it running/reliable is more important than the cost right now to me and that is the only way i'm sure of having that happen. -drew
The quickest and safest route will be to go back to a stock td04 turbo and stock injectors and run AP stage II. You'll appreciate the quick spool of the stock turbo compared to the vf22. Atleast this will get your car running and able to make it to CO and back. You can decide what to do with the vf22 later then.
