I don't care how bent you are from seeing the same question 8 billion times.
or how much you want to yell "USE THE SEARCH!"

the new guys that come here don't know any better.
and if your rude, they will leave just as fast with ill thoughts about a site that should have been MORE then beneficial to helping them love the car they bought.

it's one thing to rag on someone who has been here for a while with playful lolz. But don't smack someone who has blatant "I need help with useful answers" with a sock full of poop. if you need to further your investigation of said issue, do so respectfully by the same happy way you would like your questions answered.

Temp bans should be issued for these... without whining.

personal rant ended. Point of views encouraged.

This sort of thread is not needed. There is enough drama around here without people starting threads like this. If you feel like you absolutely need to contribute to actually helping the problem, please do this type of thing via PM's or in person.

although your point is legit i beg to differ. this forum is not all that much different from any other car based forum or even "internet forum" in the idea that people who dont use the search tool for simple and in some cases retarded questions, are going to be flammed like the rest of have. they arent going to get any better of an experience on another forum so if we really do rub them the wrong way to keep them off our forum, they probably wouldnt have lasted long in the first place. yes maybe it is a bit rude to treat a new member that way but whats the point in treating adults like babies who arent going to get that treatment on another forum.

yes we might stand out that much more as a car forum but we'd all be acting super fake and they would get flammed at some point down the road in their internet experience, so why not start when they are new to it?

im not trying to make it an argument but i just think its not that big of a deal. we probably act a little douchy but not flamming at all is kinda redonk

Just be nice to everyone. Newbies and oldies.
There is a LOT of content on forums, and although the answer is out there, sometimes it is REALLY difficult to find. Have you ever tried a search on NASIOC? WAY too much content for me to dig thru.

Just be nice. If someone new posts a question that has been asked a million times, realize that you were the newbie once and probably did the same thing. If not, they are not doing it to p1ss anyone off, jsut throw them a link and tell them how you found it.

I have sometimes thought it would be interesting to start a new account and see how people respond without knowing who it is...

I think new members should be given training wheels...

they should get treated well and reminded of the search feature (that is what we have been doing) How ever.... for people that have been around and should know better... we should be able to rip into them a little with out them getting all butt-hurt.

I've got tore open and rightfully so! Several times! but I was not a newb and I should have known better, people with such thin skin should stay out of the internets, like it was said, "......we'd all be acting super fake and they would get flammed at some point down the road in their internet experience, so why not start when they are new to it?" It does make some sense.

i think this threads point is to say that, if new users come on here asking a question legit or illogical we tend to make it more off topic in the first 5 minutes than any other forum. ive never seen a more off topic website and i think that is partially because most of us know each other. im not trying to knock on "Dream" or anything but that ("i LOVE pancakes") is a perfect example of a pointless post, he may agree that this thread is pointless but as we can all see Skarecrows opinion is not. its trying to help this websites sanity. we only have 80-some regular members and that keeps this website in crashing into an off topic spiral, the point of this website is to encourage new members to get involved with their coorisponding community and to help grow ours, not to ridecule the new members and deter them from the only minnesota based subaru site. i kind of lost track of where i was going but i think you guys get the idea..

my only point is that even thought they may be new new to our forum they are way more likely not new to the internet and should be shown a proper flamming. nothing overboard but calling them a newb or giving them a good fail to the face while insisting they learn the search tool at the same time. no one really has to feel butt hurt.

if we dont show our true E-personalities right away they are going to leave once we start to anyways. thats only if they are that sensitive to leave from a little butthurtage. it never hurt anyone.

agreed ^ but everyone should be aware of that when you are new to any website.

BUT when new members asks a logical question we have a real bad tendency to clog their legit thread with useless BS.

and when they day comes that they learn how to act on a internet forum, they too can join in on the nonsense! if we baby them upfront they probably would take twice as long to learn how to use the search.

scold them just right the first time they probably wont make the mistake twice. thats how it worked for me. if they get scolded and leave the club. it probably wouldnt have lasted long for them anyways.

if they dont fit in here they never would.

I'm a pushover nice guy usually, but... that guy....

anyway, I think I will continue to not be an ass, even if the concensus is that it is ok to be a jerk.

It might help if "USE THE SEARCH" is someplace on the frickin forum .. but it isn't! YAY. Anyway, I'm closing this thread. You guys need to go outside or something. We have more than enough to do without everyone always pointing out our shortcomings. That is what the "report post" button is for.
