New here. New to Minneapolis--and Subaru (kind of--I drive a 2005 Saab 9-2x) Previous car was a 2000 Saab 9-3, after my job interview in Minneapolis I was driving home to Indiana and hit a deer, totaling my Saab. I work in Minneapolis doing advertising for Porsche and Harley so that is pretty cool. Looking forward to gleaning information/help off of you guys. Cheers and regards Chris 2005 Saabaru 9-2x 1973 Datsun 240Z
Hey 73datsun good to see you joined mnsubaru club. Anyway if you still have question about your stereo install just ask these guys in here. They might be able to help you out.
You'll have to bring your Datsun out some night. I had a 74 260Z when I lived in Seattle. I miss that car...
The Z The Z has quite a bit done to it. I will have to remember it all, I haven't driven it for over 8 months and it is sitting 700 miles from where I currently live. 70k mies when I purchased it. Now has a 280 z engine with a 240z head...10.5:1 compression swithched rearends from 3.4 to a 3.93 switched the 4sp to a 5sp late model replaced stock tach with a 5in monster tach in original location Unilite distributor, MSA headers wrapped in high temp header wrap, 2.5exhaust, crane cams ignition box, crane hi-perform coil, Energy Suspension poly urethane bushings everywhere, eibach springs, tokico struts, MSA strut tower braces front and back, Suspension techniques sway bars front and back, switched carbs to SU's with airhorns and K&N filters, seats replaced with Corbeau's, corbeau 4 point harnesses, ported and polished head, ARP rod bolts, Holley Redline fuel pump and regulator, modified oil pan with traps, Nissan Motorsports Turbo oil pump, Goodridge stainless steel brakelines, Hawk carbon metalic pads, Taylor Hi-Pro 8mm plug wires Interior is pristine...no cracks on dash, aluminum switch plate, toggles fuel pump, ignition box, foglights and rev limiter switch....push button start in cigarette lighter position, Momo Dshaped wheel, MSA quick steer knuckles Got rid of the airpump, emissions control, no cat, got rid of the air conditioning (no need for any emissions control...grandfathered due to the year of vehicle) Yokohoma tires MSA Front spoiler mods came as I could remember them sorry for the weird order. I am sure there is more I have done in the past 2-4 years but I can't really remember everything right now.
Aww crap- I thought I was in the newbie thread!! I must have hit "New Thread" rather than "Reply" Sorry...glad I started out on the right foot :?
(Sob) Now I really miss my old car. I had a gold/beige colored one. Same thing...Perfect interior, the exterior was a little banged up, but no rust and no real damage. I'm thinking in a year or so I'd like to find a decent condition 71-73 and tune that up. I don't know if you've ever been to www.zspecialties.com but he's a great Datsun guy, he was who I had do all my work when I lived in Washington.
Are you working for a particular ad agency here in town? Just wondering because I have a friend who works at Fallon. Advertising is a pretty big business around here.
Yeah, I work for Carmichael Lynch. The ad community here is well known throughout the world. I looked/interviewed in LA, SanFran, Chicago and Minneapolis. Minneapolis offered me my dream job and the city is pretty awesome.
The smart man would get that engine mount adapter kit. Then you'd get an RB26DETT and put that HKS Stroker kit in there and convert it to Single turbo. MMMMMMMMMM....and keep it RWD, but get something in teh rear that can handle the power
There is a well known guy who put a superchagerd LT-1 in a 240Z. There is a clip of him staying even with an Yamaha R1. The RB26DETT would be cool but completely unpractical. The engines and parts are extremely expensive and somewhat hard to come by. A few people have done this to fairly good results but it took trash cans full of money A more practical application is to use the SR20T engine from the JDM Silvia/240sx. Low weight an still very capable of modifying. In the future this is what I will likely do. Another somewhat common engine swap is to take the crank out of a DIESEL Maxima from the 80's put it in an over bored 2.8 (to roughly 3.1L) With the right head combo you can get crazy compression. There is a 240 I have seen race a z06--last years model and that Z pulled hard on the z06. But modern breaking will nearly alway outperform the archaic regardless of how much $$$ you dump. Cheers Chris
My buddy had a Brittish Racing Green '72 240Z back in high school....boy did we have fun in that car! I never knew what a gem it was until long after it was gone.
Hmm, have you lived through a winter here? And compared to those other cities I'd choose here too. Plus we don't need to worry about emissions testing, just make sure to keep your emissions control systems untouched from stock
