hey everybody. i joined way back in december and started to get my feet wet but then sort of lost interest and then that whole flood thing happened and i lost touch with my inner subaru enthusiast. as of late though my interest has come back and ive been on the hunt for a 2.5rs, preferably the 98-01 variety. i may have found one at the local subaru dealership but im somewhat skeptical.

    http://www.muscatellsubaru.com/used-inventory/vehicle-details.htm?vehicleId=7756906b7f0000010115d34fa5306d73

from what ive seen of it in person, it has all the exterior parts needed to be a 2.5rs, but when i run the VIN it comes up as an L-model. i havent had a good chance to stop in and ask about it, but when i do, what are some things i should inquire about (assuming it is indeed a 2.5rs)? im aware of the headgasket issue with the 2.5 engine, but other than that im clueless.

I'm guessing the impreza L doesn't have REAR DISC brakes, someone correct me.
and I believe i only seen the L model in 2.2l

You sure you want an AUTO? looks nice and clean thought.

but at that price I would recommand a WRx.

I think they've got the wrong VIN listed for that car. Everything I can see on that one points to a 98RS. That color is an RS color only, the interior looks correct right down to the black face gauges. It looks like it has a sunroof so it's for sure an RS. They imported less than 1700 of them that year, and there were about 700 in WRB that year so that's a rare bird indeed. The mileage is nice and low and automatics usually don't get the beatings like manuals do and tend to stand up to it better.

Boosted and EJ20, he said he's looking for a 98-01 RS. I'm pretty sure he's considered the bugeye by this point and decided on a GC. And EJ20, it's been brought up before: it's a WRX, not sure why you keep saying WRx.

    +1

I live up North of you in Grand Forks, and I, too, know how hard it is to get your hands on a WRX in this area. As soon as they come up for sale, they're sold, as long as the car is in decent shape. Lots of options down in the Twin Cities though, including some deals on really nice cars on this forum. :)

Love the 2.5RS you're looking at (if that's indeed what it is), if that had been for sale around the time I bought my wagon, I'd have had a real tough choice to make. Oh, and welcome!

It's a Impreza RS for sure. I can see the rear disk brakes. Not bad, trying looking for a 00-01 RS instead because there were some improvements done like better LSD, MAP intake instead of MAF and Big Fogs instead so you don't have to change front bumper. You might have to go out to states too. Good luck in your search.

It wasn't a better LSD, they added one. The 98-99 are open rear diffs.
