Richard Zednik from the Florida Panthers got cut in the throat last night from a skate...here is the video: http://sports.espn.go.com/broadband/video/videopage?videoId=3240490&categoryId=2378529&n8pe6c=2
yeah, I heard about this today on 93x. Crazy stuff. When we played they made it mandatory to where neck guards after a kid in the league had his neck stepped on in a game and cut it pretty good.
Damn, that was a crazy blood trail from where it happened to the bench. Any further details about it or better camera shots and/or pictures?
nahhh i have been looking for more videos...but thats all i got for now..and for an update on him, he is in stable condition.
Just post it, and put a warning next to the link. That is not against the site rules at all is it? if you still don't want to post it, send me a pm please
He was super lucky. His carotid artery was still together by a thread. If it had been completely severed, the ends would have retracted and the surgen would have had a hell of a time getting it back together. Also, she mentioned that the artery was very clean, which is wierd here in america. I guess 12 years in the NHL will keep you in pretty good health.
Alright, here are the 2 other vids I found that show him going down. WARNING: GRUESOME!!!!!11 http://youtube.com/watch?v=aSbvfA8qgI4 and this one around the 1:30 mark is the money shot. http://youtube.com/watch?v=bYue5Git1-A
ouch! when you pick up a hockey skate they just don't seem that sharp, but get some force behind it and hit something soft like a neck and you have problems thank god this doesn't happen more often or the sport would surely change a lot
When I was young, I wanna say 8-10, a player in the Minnetonka, I think, youth program got his jugular cut in a similar accident. His coach saved his life by holding his hand over the cut. Shortly after, their youth program required neck guards. My dad made me wear one too.
Skates are sharp, trust me. I played for ten years and kept mine to the point I could shave with them, even though I was young and didn't have facial hair. Most pros sharpen their skates every game, and some even in between periods.
