Finally got around to putting in a V-LSD unit from a 91 turbo legacy. Let me say that it was quite a learning experience. I used Dan's old 4.111 case, crown gear, and pinion, and swapped the vlsd unit into that. Bought new seals, breather cap, etc. The cases are actually different inside, the VLSD case has been ground down in a few places so the unit can slide in, so I had to use a reamer bit and make it fit like they did. Then I came into the axle issue. On the VLSD one of the axle stubs is longer, and goes way into the diff. So I needed to either find a set of axles that matched those stubs, or just use the legacy axle stubs and find legacy axles. Mike Wray hooked me up with a set of legacy turbo axles for a great price so I used those. Thanks Mike! The studs on back of the diff are longer on the impreza than on the legacy, but I knew that ahead of time and swapped them over to the new cover. What I didn't know was the bolt pattern was way different where the driveshaft meets the diff. So after I had already filled the diff with redline I had to take the ends off of the pinions and swap them. So all said and done, it took a bit longer than expected to finish the project, mainly because I didn't have access to air tools. Thanks goes to Dan for his help, because I would have been screaming if I had to do all of that stuff by myself. Oh I also swapped in some urathane bushings for the diff, I think they are powerflex's. They make quite a difference and I don't notice any extra noise with them. I think I'm going to buy the kartboy ones for the front of the diff support as well.
