Well it finally happened after 263,377 miles The prodrive Outback is dead. The trans is in pieces and the heads are totaly warped. But it will be rebuilt stronger, faster, better. A new 2.5 with a 10.5:1 compression, custom cold air intake (you've seen it "free cold air intake"), full catless piping with wrx muffler, wrx trans, and hooopefully wrx seats and rims if I can find a good price on ebay. And before any ony suggests a wrx engine I HATE TURBOS! so no. I'm also debating painting it flat black, but the lady might object to a nearly invisible car with a carseat and baby.
also coming from the guy with the mazda's twin brother for a sig...... my wife's mazda 6 has been nothing but amazing to us, no problems whatsoever, 1st CEL was for a thermostat @ 78K miles.....
i think u should go with a bigger and badder engine.. like the 3.3l boxer or 3.0 boxer.. since u like na power. or like the guys said earlier.. wrx and delete the turbo equipement.. would be a lil more fun if ur going to have to do engine swap anyways
There's some threads on Nasioc about people building hybrid high-compression NA engines, 2.5 blocks with 2.2 heads. Maybe add some delta cams to that and I think it'd be pretty good.
well good to see ya up and posting again, even if it took the death of your car to do so. but anyway as far as what prezawagon posted, thats really only a good set up if u dont have a full 2.5 motor to swap in. yea u get high comp, but u still have pretty crappy flowing heads. its pretty much a good upgrade for people with 2.2s and can get a good deal on a 2.5 block, because it will run just fine on a 2.2 ecu with premo in the gas tank, but givin the option of a full 2.5, u definatly want to go with that. but yea later this fall im going to start building my 2.2/2.5 hybrid for the wagacy. and as far as paint jobs go, check out the progress on my wagacy here.... http://mnsubaru.com/forums/showthread.php?t=18659
I originaly wanted a 3.3 from the svx but its too expensive. I already have the 2.5 in it so with 10.5:1, ecu, full catless (no catalitic converterS) 2" with a wrx muffler intake porting & polish tighter headseal and other small things Im looking for aruond 200-250 @ the wheels, and thats all I want which is another reason I dont want a turbo I mean all that lag for only 200+ hp... no thanx also I only realy care about beutiful tourqe. Im also seeing if a sti cam would fit, a na motor with 8500rpm would be awsome. also going to try legacy gt springs with new legacy outback shocks (shorter gt springs with the tall stiff outback shocks) hey it might work. ! Viva Subaru !
You aren't even talking about a REAL engine. That thing you want to build is for sissies. I wouldn't even put it in a Barbie Powerwheels. I mean, everyone knows a REAL N/A engine has eight cylinders and a lumpy idle...
Na 2.5 FTL... man up and get the SVX motor.... spendin all that money of legacy springs and STI cams... f*ck that... save the nickles and dimes and get the big boy..
lmao you can build your n/a 2.5 and make 175 CRANK hp, and 200 tq while all the turbo boys walk right by you....
Yeah, it's called adding extra displacement and/or revs and/or forced induction. And your n/a 2.5 motor has none of these. Have fun polishing your sub-200whp turd.
You guys are kinda being pricks about this whole thing. If he doesn't want a turbo, he doesn't want a turbo....
2.5N/A is obviously a REAL ENGINE. That is why they use it in all base model cars in the lineup. There is nothing wrong with wanting to stay N/A...but you had better know the limits before you start. 250whp is possible, but pointless and high-budget. The money you'd spend making 250 n/a hp on a 2.5L Subaru block would get you close to 350whp if you went with an EJ257 and a 20G.
meh, he was talkin trash to me 2 years ago about how his outback was quicker than my teg.... i lawled then and i lawl now.
to those who still dont get it. Im not trying to get the most power for the least amount of money, Im not trying to impress anyone but me when I drive, I have a wagon not a flashy sports car and Im not trying to beat a tin can with a bike engine or a steel sled with a truck engine. I like a fun response machine. BTW gsr boy, I said I wanted to race not win. if you recall ALL of our conversation I said you would prob win! I like subarus cuz the tuner crowd is a bit off center, more into underdog racing like rally not boring just going fast with turbos and stickers. What happened to that!?
yea i know im just rippin on ya, hell im in the same boat with my legacy, im building a high comp 2.5 for it this winter with my 2.2 heads, im not looking for a monster power either, just something with a little more pep and a few less strange noises...
