175 175 140 125 ....both 175's were on the driver side....now time to figure out what I wanna do...rebuild existing engine or try and find another. and if I find another if I wanna build a hybrid or not...decisions decisions

Where are you losing compression? Past the rings or the valves?

Do a wet compression test on the cylinders with low compression or a leakdown test.

+1 for what sheen said, and sorry to hear about the low compression. What spurred you to check the compression?

And if you do a rebuild, I'd say you might as well go 2.5 hybrid build. I am thoroughly enjoying the 2.5 in the STi vs the 2.0 in the saabaru...the 2.5 hybrid should yield nearly the same results. Check with Josh, I believe he is enjoying his hybrid build!

I've had a misfire code for a while now, so I was planning on doing plugs anyway so I figured since they were out to check....and I thought I may had a issue with either with the turbo or the cylinders. I would preferably like to do a hybrid...but not a lot of money to spend right meow...hopefully it stays running till the end of February. then hopefully I can do it

Honestly I would be surprised if its the bottom end. Your compression would be a lot lower if a ring let go or a cylinder was scored. Its probably your heads (clearances are too loose or exhaust valves are toast) in which case rebuild the heads (if possible) or replace them.

Also did you test the drivers side first? If so how cold was it where you tested it and how long before you tested the passenger side (ie was the drivers side tested warm and the ps cold)?

I did the pass side first then driver, then I retested the pass side when I saw there was such a big difference. the car wasn't very warm...did it after it was sitting for bout 45 min.

I say that you do like Sheen said and rebuild the heads. The hybrid build should be done with aftermarket internals, which costs mo money. So far so good for me with the 'stock internals' hybrid...but everyday is a crapshoot. Rebuilding the heads would be the most cost effective option for you.

How many miles on the car? Cracked exhaust valve or two is my guess, incredibly common on 2.0Ls that havent ever had a valve adjustment.

Mine were shot at 193,500. It is moar than likely your problem mang.

You should be able to find a set of heads for around $200-250 if your are too far gone. Mine couldn't be rebuilt.

quite a bit. it's a time consuming process. give them a call for an exact quote, but the last couple most recent quotes I heard about (different years will have different parts costs but similar labor rates) were in the 1600-2000 range.
