My first run, in-car, pretty slippery: My second run, the mud's tacking up a little, lowered tire pressure, heavier right foot(wasn't benificial, lol) I'm running Nokian WRs with only a touch over 4mm left. I know I need to look into better tires for this stuff as the WRs aren't exactly ideal in pattern, even if depth was still full. My friend in the fwd class was running some Blizzak WS-50s, and they looked like they were at home out there. I can see I need to raise the camera up a few inches at least, so I'll have to look into some options for that. I need to get the battery charged full for next time too, at least bring a car adapter for the charger if nothing else. Took some shots of some of the other awd cars after my last run. It's not all the awd runners and I have no fwd shots as I was working the start line during their runs. I know a friend of mine there who was running a fwd has some shots of some of the runs too, but most likely awd vids of some cars going by as he was working out on the course. I'm not sure what he got, haven't seen his vids yet.
Once every year or two we get a combination of weather and surface that results in a course you could just about walk faster than you can drive it. This was like that. It was still fun, but more in a laughing at how ridiculous it all was way. I made the worst choice I could have for tires, and went with my gravel rally tires, thinking the voids would be big enough to help release the mud. Unfortunately, they were so stiff that they didn't flex at all and the mud stuck in even worse. I had easy twice the traction when I went to my Wal-Mart $40 tires I usually just use to get the car to events. Regardless, I never got stuck, but my friend Erik managed to get stuck in my car. I hope the Nov event is dry.
I've got a couple small clips from a RallyX a couple of years ago processing at Youtube. I'll post the URL once they're ready.
Yeah, right away it was pretty bad. After it tacked up some, I liked it, just not on these tires. I'll probably look into a dedicated off-road set at some point, just not sure the tire I'd pick.
