the most interesting driving season of the year has started. i know there are gonna be some interestin accidents so if you see some please post em up. it can be informative, in A. what not to do, and B. what roads to aviod traffic on. friday afternoon maybe 1-2 pm i was driving on 15 towards wayzata, what did i see a mini van rolled over in the other lane. i was dumbfounded how did someone manage to roll over thier minivan on a plowed road, in a straight line, and going under 40 mph?
i was taking a nice blind left curve and it leads right into a watery ditch if you under steer/slide off the side. there were tracks where someone had driven right into it and the idiot part of my brain said, "APPLY THE BRAKES!" so of course i my nose snaps right towards it and i say to myself, "look away from the ditch and step on the gas." that worked, and a little bit further down the road i pass a lady in her suv... i presume that she had been the one in the ditch because she was white knuckling that thing smack dab in the middle of the road at 20mph.
I slid into a curb on Friday morning. Thought it would just need a re-allignment.... Ended up buying four new tires. TOTAL setback - $540 All new tires w/ All wheel drive - priceless
11 cars in the ditches between moorhead and fergus falls on hwy94 today. roads were glare ice up there, got better the closer we got to the city.
Since I don't have the winter treads on yet, I stayed off the road on Fri. However, on Sat I ventured out to do some grocery shopping and had to put the diff in 'lock' to make it up my driveway! I spun all the way up to the garage. That, my firends, is why you don't drive on summer tires in the snow!
I heard from co-workers there are tons of accidents this morning. For one, the downhill on 7th street which goes towards downtown in the east side has 5+ accidents. People's cars just can't slow down and win against ice and gravity. Anything interesting to share with the rest of us?
Public Service Announcement: All Scion xB owners should end themselves with immediate effect Seriously people, if you insist on driving your rolling toaster during the winter at least make a token effort towards making it somewhat capable of moving in snow. I was stuck behind someone in an xB going 15mph all the way from France and Lake to the Penn Ave entrance ramp to 394. Actually I guess that's better than the alternative, having them drive like a madman on summer tires. The stupid thing didn't even spit a Pop-Tart out the top for me, I could have used some breakfast.
Ok, saw a black 4 door sedan mashed into the arse end of a dump truck on Difley in Eagan this morning. My simple question...how do you not see a dumptruck?
Seen two car fires in one night. On my way home a couple weeks ago from offroading in WI I saw the first one at 494 and 52; RAGE'N fire! The whole car was ablaze atleast 10 feet high. Second one was at 35E and 77; fire trucks were already there and put out the flames but it was billowing huge amounts of thick black smoke still.
on tuesday morning after that slush strom we got, i saw a white celica (older one) facing the wrong way on the on ramp from 394w to 494s. they had the whole rammp closed while the tow truck worked on getting the thing outta the way.
Lots of stupid ones out today. I got backed into this evening. Lady backing out of a parking space doesn't bother to look behind her and backs right into my drivers side rear. Just some scraped paint but I'll have to have a shop sand it down and paint the bumper. All I can say is there are a lot of people out there who should be thanking their lucky stars I don't carry a gun.
^you should get one of the SuperTone horns that brian shorten and i are getting in the fog light group by. they are giving us 10% off of anything we order. the nicer ones are like $60 minus 10%
It would be nice to have but it wouldn't have helped here. I didn't see here until she was 3-4 feet away, she came at me in the drivers sides blind spot. I tried to punch it to get out of the way but she got my rear corner. I guess it's better than caving in my drivers side though.
I was out with the boys on Sat. night and I had an accident. I accidently filled the inside of my car with snow!  Does that count? Readymix post up the pic!
I saw some dude modify his burnt orange SRT on a guard rail east bound 494 and the 5th and 7th Street exit a week ago friday. Looked like a complete "custom" front end job. He hoped out and was yelling on his cell phone as I got closer. My ten year old asks, "Was he driving on summer tires?"
I told him last month when he turned 10, "You should probably start thinkin about moving out" I mean hey, down south he'd be married by now.
Smart boy. Remember to teach him the mantra of winter tires...Nokian, Nokian, Nokian. I saw dozens of cars off the road between Madison and the Dells on 94 in Wisconsin this weekend. Drove right along at 70mph with my Nokians, never had a problem.
Hakkapeliitta RSi, a bit pricey but a really nice tire. Got them through Anderson Motorsport in Chanhasen, nice folks. Been looking for snow and ice to drive on, these tires make winter fun again. I'm sure any decent snow tire would be excelent on an AWD car.
Settle Chin, you're drooling again....[/quote] Sorry, guess I need to clean the drool off my chin! Driving on these craptastic LM-22s will make anyone drool for the RSi!
I got backed into today by a 45 year old man in an avalon who was blaring NPR so loud he couldnt hear me honking as he just threw it in reverse, on the road in traffic and backed directly into my front end. I watched him coming for 15 yards, i was honking the whole time. I'm getting the damage appraised by his insurance company tomorrow and he admitted fault. I hope they just write me a check and i can fix everything. Mostly paint and cracked body panels. And now I need another oe of these too: http://www.renickmotorsports.com/oscommerce/catalog/index.php?cPath=24_32_535 and hopefully he wont have to pay for one of these either: http://www.renickmotorsports.com/oscommerce/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=24_32_55&products_id=159
I hate this thread, Subbies getting ouchies is not cool. This season really brings the helmet wearing morons, people are driving with their heads up their butts to keep thier ears warm.
I couldn't help but laugh last week when I was driving to the Homewood Suites at MOA for a business meeting. It was snowing, the roads were wet and slippery...I am on summer tires. But for some reason, I am the only person on the road that ISN'T sliding around out of control. Women in SUVs that are constantly on their brakes make me smile as they fishtail and slide about. Learn to fking drive ffs.
