So it's Saturday night and I had been out about 45 minutes. I had hit a few lots and decided to head to a big one that's tons of fun. I was 100' from the entrance when this happened...

While take a left around a long corner my car suddenly stopped turning and instead started heading towards the curb on the right side of the street I was turning onto. (Ice?) No need to panic I thought, I'll just apply a little counter steering and a light touch on the gas to bring the backend around. Well, I did that, and the car did come around. Unfortunatly I ran out of room and the rear passenger wheel hit the curb, followed by the front wheel. The hit was violent considering I was probably only doing 10 MPH pulse whatever speed I gained when I hit the ice. After getting my car into the lot I got out to find the rear wheel completely jacked. The bottom of the wheel was probably 5 - 10 degrees in.

Bloomington Subaru got back to me today. $2600 to fix assuming the front suspension is okay. Pretty much everything attached to the wheel was bent and/or broken.

So that sucks. A word of caution to any other new or somewhat new to AWD members (I'm a year new). These cars have amazing grip in the snow, but that grip can go away real fast if you find a patch of ice.

Hope everyone else faired better than I did.

What was broken or damaged for $2600? Specifically, I mean.

Sounded like just about everything including both passenger side wheels. I'll post a list when I get it back. Hopefully on Monday!

Did anyone else see the trace of snow that fell today? Wow, it was awesome! Apparently Minneapolis just isn't the place to be if you want snow this year. Meanwhile, everyday my winter tires take more and more of a beating. Depressing.

they weren't that bad, just people either thinking they can drive like normal or screwing around and lost it.

And just as a yearly reminder. We do have police on the forum. So please, please, please, if you are going to go out and do stupid things, please do not post the location of said stupid things. You will end up ruining the evening for you and anyone else with you.

They were just driving like normal (for a slippery snowy situation), and just dipped into the ditch.

I did the exact same thing a few weeks ago, solid ice, crept into it super slow and still continued straight. Also counter steered and flicked the gas, just clipped the curb and took the paint off of the right rear lip. Sorry to hear about the damage, hopefully everything else faired alright besides the wheel.

AWD does not keep you out of the curbs when it comes to ice. You don't have to be an idiot.

Just a reminder AWD doesn't decrease the braking distance (especially with the ice underneath)... excelerate fast :D... but keep the speeds down please

shoulda seen me leaving mcdonalds last night at 2 in the morning. sideways on silver lake from mcdonalds exit till just before the 694 west entrance. that was after sideways around the side of the store.

i was pissed that they were only accepting cash, so i said i don't have any and then sidewaysed around their ****. they were looking out the drive through window shouting at me. ****em.

that was the third place i'd gone to try and get dinner after work. firs mc d's, on co rd d was closed, so then i went to wendy's on silver lake by walsatanmart, closed, then i drove all the way up to mc d's on silver lake. they were open, but were only taking cash. fuuuuuuu.....*rage face*

so i was pissed at that point, and driving shenanigans ensued.

Lol. The driving shens would have made me feel better...at least they'd give you a momentary fix from the tummy rumblin'. It does suck that nearly everything in New Breezy closes down at 12am tho.:(
